Indian Premier League, Match 13: Kings XI Punjab vs Kolkata Knight Riders - Preview

Indian Premier League, Match 13: Kings XI Punjab vs Kolkata Knight Riders - Preview
Mohali: Having notched up their first victory against Pune Supergiants, an upbeat Kings XI Punjab face the all-round might of two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders in an Indian Premier League cricket tournament encounter, here on Tuesday.
While KKR have four points from three games with two wins under their belt, Kings XI opened their account with a six-wicket win against Pune yesterday.
On paper, KKR are overwhelming favourites against Punjab with a more balanced outfit but reputations count for little in the shortest format as most of the contests are won on the day.
Expect an interesting battle between KKR's much vaunted batting line-up against KXIP's bowling which has looked disciplined during their last match against Pune on a two-paced wicket.
IPL 2016, Match 10: All-round Kings XI Punjab beat Rising Pune Supergiants by six wickets
MUST READ

So there could be some intriguing smaller battle within the battles. How Gambhir tackles Mohit Sharma's slower deliveries or how Sandeep Sharma can stop Andre Russell from hitting those towering sixes.
It will also be a challenge for KXIP spinners like Axar Patel as KKR is one side which has quality batsmen against slow bowlers.
For Knight Riders, the best part about their journey since Gambhir taking over in 2011 is the amount of consistency that they have shown over the years.
Not only have they won the title twice in 2012 and 2014 but more importantly have stuck with their core group of players in thick and thin during these years.
Skipper Gambhir, opener Robin Uthappa, Manish Pandey, Suryakumar Yadav, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine have all settled down in their respective roles in the past few years giving them a dangerous look despite the absence of a huge star in the ranks of a Kohli, Dhoni or AB de Villiers.
They have been more or less clinical in their two wins against Daredevils at home and Sunrisers in an away game. The loss against Mumbai Indians could be attributed more to Rohit Sharma's individual brilliance backed up nicely by Jos Buttler's pyrotechnics.
The best part about KKR's campaign so far has been Gambhir's form as he is on top of the run-getters' table with 192 runs at a healthy strike-rate of 125.49. He has been playing the role of sheet anchor to perfection as has forged a good opening partnership with Robin Uthappa.
Uthappa's 81 runs in three matches may not look big in terms of volume but in both the wins, his contributions have been 35 and 38.
While it may not actually be a cause of worry, the nine-wicket win against Daredevils and eight-wicket win against Sunrisers but KKR's middle-order has not been put to test during the three matches that they have played.
However with a three-pronged spin attack of Narine, Piyush Chawla and Shakib Al Hasan, KKR can put the KXIP batting to test which has not been very consistent in their three matches so far.
Apart from these three, KKR also have veteran chinaman bowler Brad Hogg, who has also done well in the two matches that he has played.
The pace duties are expected to be shared between Morne Morkel, Umesh Yadav and Russell.
In KXIP team, Manan Vohra, who has scored 38, 32 and 51 in the three matches, the others have not lived upto the expectations. Glenn Maxwell's 14-ball-32 did help in their win against Pune Supergiants but Maxwell has had a struggle on Indian pitches since the start of the World T20.
The big shots have not come off as frequently as he would have expected. The worrying factor for KXIP is Maxwell's 34 runs in 3 matches and skipper David Miller's 31 in 3 games.
That has put the team under lot of pressure with another seasoned campaigner Shaun Marsh scoring only 17 in 2 games.
But in the three games, the shining light for KXIP has been their two pacers Sandeep Sharma (4 wickets) and Mohit Sharma (3 wickets), especially Mohit, who is also coming back from an injury. They have had decent economy rates of 5.55 and 6.57 respectively in the three matches so far.
He has shown the ability to mix and match his deliveries, varying the pace effectively during death overs. Sandeep has also bowled in good areas.
The problem area for KXIP in their bowling has been spinners Axar Patel and Pardeep Sahu, both of whom have leaked runs in the three matches that they have played. KXIP will certainly look at trying out someone in place of Sahu -- may be mystery spinner KC Cariappa or India discard all-rounder Gurkeerat Singh Mann.

The ‘switch-story’ with Colin Munro

The Eden Gardens is lit up and the Kolkata Knight Riders are going full throttle in their practice session. In one corner Andre Russell and Yusuf Pathan are giving the white ball a sound thrashing. Coach Jacques Kallis is keeping a keen watch over the nets and alongside him is New Zealand’s Colin Munro. He is having a chat with his ‘cricketing idol’, someone he admired growing up as a young kid in South Africa. “He is one of my biggest cricketing idols. In my opinion he is probably the world’s best all-rounder and the best cricketer the world has ever seen,” Munro says as we take a seat beside the boundary ropes.

He goes on to talk about Kallis with a glint in his eye and in the same breath says, “My intention is to become an all-rounder, not just a batsman who can bowl a couple of overs here and there. I want to be a fine all-rounder and I am working on it really hard. I have had some good interactions with Jacques about playing in different situations and going about my routines. Sometimes I can just go to the nets and have a bit of a slog and feel happy. Sometimes it is about going out there with a specific target that you want to work on. It is nice to have him behind the nets and give me inputs.”

Munro realizes he has walked into the IPL with a reputation of being a big-hitter. After all, he has the record for the second-fastest fifty in international cricket (second only to Yuvraj Singh); against Sri Lanka at Eden Park in Auckland early in January this year he scored a half-century that came off just 14 balls. “I have always had hard-hitting abilities because I don’t have the greatest technique to hang around for too long. I have to try and score my runs really quickly,” he says with a reassuring smile. “But I am working on hitting the ball in different areas and to be able to soak up pressure,” he quickly adds. “You don’t have to always hit the ball over the ropes. I am working really hard to try and build an innings which is something I did during a couple of T20 World Cup games.”

The T20 World Cup saw Munro’s inventive and daring stroke-play. His reverse smash for a six against India and the switch cut and a switch dab against Australia and Pakistan got everyone talking. Not that he hadn’t done it in the past in a few games back home where bowlers have been completely dumb founded by his ability to execute the switch hit to perfection. “The first time I saw someone play the switch hit was in an India-Australia game. I saw David Warner playing it in SCG where he just turned around and hit R Ashwin over long on (for the right-hander) for a six. I also saw Kevin Pietersen executing it a few times to good effect. That is when I thought why not I give it a go. I just stumbled across it in a club game as well where I was finding it hard to get the spinner away. He brought up his fielder at point and I thought why not I just turn around and hit it right-handed? It worked and since then it has been a shot that I have progressed on.”

But is it all planned in his head before going for the switch hit or is it pure instinct? “It is a hundred percent pre-meditation,” pat comes the reply. “It is a shot that I am looking to hit for a six. If it is not there to be hit and it is outside of my eye line then I can play it for a late cut or try and keep along the ground if it is a very short ball. Against someone that is really quick, I would probably put it away but it depends a lot on the wicket. If it is a really good wicket then I wouldn’t play it as often. If it is a slow turning wicket where it is hard to rotate the strike then I would use the switch hit as a boundary option. You want the ball coming on to your bat a little bit so you can just hit through the line. I am also working on a switch hit that will help keep the ball along the ground and doesn’t get me out often. It is a work in progress and we will see how it goes.”

Munro felt his fondness to play hockey helped him in executing the switch hit to good effect. “Hockey plays a big part in my power game. It helps my switch hit and when it comes to sweeping the ball. The natural hand-eye coordination in hockey helps me with my batting. It helps me to get my hands to the ball a lot quicker as well. It is about getting really low to the ground and in hockey you are horizontal the whole time in terms of getting the stick down to your ground and having a steady motion whether you are passing or taking a stroke to strike a goal. It is all in one motion.”

Though happy to play the switch hit, Munro wants to keep his options open and not go big on improving just one aspect of his game. “I don’t practice it often at the nets. Obviously you want to evolve your game once you come to India and learn to play with the straight bat first and hit the ball down the ground and be open to other options. The switch hit is always there but against wrist spinners I want to get into good positions and look nice and solid. I want to rotate the strike, understand the pace of the wicket and look to hit over the ropes.”

As we continue to talk about hard-hitting batsmen around the world, Munro flips back the years and speaks about how he wants to hit the ball like the former South African all-rounder Lance Klusener. “Lance Klusener was right up there when it came to hitting the ball hard. He could just stand still and hit the ball straight and hard. He didn’t move his feet a heck of a lot but he could hit them really hard. It is just about standing still and trusting the preparations that you have done leading into your game and getting your hands through the ball as hard as you can. He was a big hitting left-hander and bowled good medium pace with nice change up deliveries. I want to model my bowling on those lines.”

Talking about his current contemporaries he says, “Chris Gayle has to be there. When he hits sixes they just don’t go over the ropes, they go into the second or third tier of the stands. Then you have Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell and Carlos Brathwaite who can hit the ball soaring into the stands. Most of the West Indian boys are big and strong and can hit them far. I don’t think you need to be big and strong to hit sixes but it definitely helps. To hit the ball continuously over 90 meters being strong definitely helps. There are plenty of guys who hit the ball hard like Corey Anderson and Jos Buttler. You have guys who hit the ball hard, but you also have guys who can time the ball really well as well. By all means I am not the biggest or the hardest hitter of the cricket ball,” he chuckles.

Munro believes over the years he has developed as a player and is beginning to come to terms with his own game. He wants to make the most of this IPL experience and use it to nurture his game and become a better cricketer. “In the past I would just go out there, whack it and get a good 20 or 30 and be happy with myself. But I think I have progressed to be a better player than that. For me to be successful I need to bat for longer which means I don’t take those risks early on. I want to build an innings and capitalise on it. Ideally on a good wicket, I would want to generate a healthy strike-rate early on in the innings. It is about reading situations and playing on merit.

“It is good to be alongside some great guys in the KKR setup. I am also getting some help from Gautam Gambhir who is one of the best players of spin in the world. I am trying to pick his brain on boundary options and the way he can play off the backfoot to cut into gaps and rotate the strike. I am trying to develop some different slower balls as well and it is a work in progress along with Wasim Akram.”

When Rohit lit up Eden - yet again!

An earthquake measuring 6.9 in magnitude hit Myanmar on Wednesday evening that triggered a few tremors in parts of Kolkata. The tremors were felt in the Eden Gardens as well by a section of the media before the start of the game. On a sporting note, tremors of a different kind were to be experienced later by the Kolkata Knight Riders on the cricket field, courtesy some fine hitting from the Mumbai Indians batsmen who creamed a run-chase of 188 with finesse.

At the helm of it was, no prizes for guessing - Rohit Sharma, who sure has fond memories of the Eden Gardens. Time and again he has said that there is just something very positive about this ground that eggs him to put up his best bat forward. Wednesday night against KKR was no different. There were shots that were pure joy to watch.

A flick for six, some glorious drives through the covers and that straight bat with the elbow high up in line with the eye - it was classic Rohit Sharma on display. The nineteenth over that Andre Russell bowled was a treat to watch in particular as Rohit completely dismantled the bowler thrashing four boundaries in that over. And, just like that it was the final nail in the coffin - it was Game, Set and Match Mumbai Indians. Captain leading from the front, two vital points, some stellar performances and the smiles were back in the Mumbai Indians dugout. Here’s man of the moment Rohit Sharma taking IPLT20.com through the run-chase and talking about his love for his second home - the Eden Gardens.

A win after the loss in the first game; this has to be a satisfying victory isn’t it?

It is a satisfying victory. The win was important and we have been talking about it a lot and today was a perfect day. Getting those two points was very crucial. We have worked really hard for this. We wanted to do well in Mumbai as well but things didn’t go accordingly. I always believe that this team has got a lot of potential and we came and proved it here today. We will happily take these two points with us to Mumbai.

The opening pair put up 50 runs in five overs, just the kind of start that the team needed?

When you are chasing big scores like that, you have to understand and plan your innings with your partner. Myself and Parthiv Patel talked about it at the start of the innings and we got off to a good start in the power play. As soon as we lost Parthiv, Hardik Pandya tried to rotate the strike but he couldn’t unfortunately. But Mitchell McClenaghan and Jos Buttler changed the course of the game.

A perfect performance from you as well, just the kind of innings you would want to play going ahead in the tournament?

Absolutely! It is important that someone from the top three bats as deep as possible and today it was me. Once I got to a decent start, I made sure that I was there as long as possible. There is nothing like starting off well and then finishing it off for your team. It is more pleasing when you do that. What I did pretty well was that I planned my innings and my shot selection was pretty good. I have played a lot of cricket here and I understand the wicket really well. I know what my scoring shots are here and where I can get runs. I planned it all well and it worked for me.

And obviously, your Eden Gardens romance continues. You sure know how to play here in particular, don’t you?

I understand how to score runs here. The outfield here is fast and you have to just time the ball really well; that is all you have to do when you are playing at the Eden Gardens. You don’t need to over hit it and sometimes when you do that you tend to lose shape and there are chances of you getting out. I select my shots and the bowlers I have to target. It works well for me here but I know that it won’t happen always. As long as it keeps happening it is good and I am going to take it no matter what.

Tell us about the thought process behind Mitchell McClenaghan’s promotion at number four.

It was Ricky Ponting’s idea. He is the one sitting in the dugout and having those ideas going around. He sent us a message inside asking if sending Mitch was a right move. I said, why not - they have two chinaman bowlers bowling who were at most times bowling googlies. We wanted to just upset their rhythm and we did it perfectly.

Also Jos Buttler coming into his own should augur well going ahead in the tournament.

Jos is going to be a very important member of our team going ahead. He is going to be a key factor for us. I thought he batted brilliantly. He got us that momentum we were looking for. Scoring 41 in 22 balls was some effort. We know that he is that kind of a player and he has done it for England many times. Today was a perfect day - he came and smashed it all round the park. I look forward to performances like those from him in the future as well.

Going forward, what are the areas that you would be looking to work on?

Going ahead I would expect the same kind of performance although there is room for improvement in the bowling department. We have to understand that taking wickets is very important in this format. We didn’t do that and that is the reason why we had to chase such a steep target. The Kolkata Knight Riders batted really well and looked like getting 200 at one point. Our bowlers bowled well at the death and got back us into the game.

A special feeling to put up a match-winning performance in front of Sachin Tendulkar, who was present in the Mumbai Indians dugout?

Sachin Tendulkar is vital as far as Mumbai Indians is concerned. His presence gives us the kind of motivation we need. He is someone who is always there to help, share his thoughts and advice people if needed. He congratulated me after the game and I am sure he was happy to see us win the game more than anything else.

Preview: M7 - DD vs KXIP

Match 7 of the VIVO IPL 2016 will feature the Delhi Daredevils playing host to Kings XI Punjab. Both teams are yet to open their account this season. While DD were decimated in their opening match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, KXIP took no points from their home match against debutants Gujarat Lions.

The Delhi Daredevils will need a huge improvement in their performance from the opening game. The batsmen fielded by the team, especially in the top five, were largely youngsters who have impressed in recent times and have earned their place in the XI. They will need to apply better and be better in their shot selection and one can expect this will have been addressed by coach Paddy Upton and mentor Rahul Dravid.

KXIP were good in parts in their opening game. The openers set up the innings very nicely, before the team lost the wickets of the dangerous David Miller and Glenn Maxwell in the same over. The team will be particularly disappointed about their bowling performance in the opening match; despite having set a target of 162, the team couldn’t defend the target, with the opposition running away with the match in 17.4 overs. The KXIP management could face a selection dilemma ahead of the match; if according to reports, Shaun Marsh has recovered from the bug that rendered him unavailable for the opening clash, it will interesting to see if he is picked in place of Marcus Stoinis.

The Protagonists

Quinton de Kock is the only international cricketer in the Delhi Daredevils top five. The South African left-hander has been hitting the ball well recently; he was South Africa’s top run-getter in the recently-concluded World T20 and was named by the ICC in the Team of the Tournament. He will need to cause pile on the runs along with Shreyas Iyer, who was in scintillating form in this season’s Ranji Trophy. It will be interesting to see if DD propel Shreyas back to the top of the order – where he had plenty of success last season. Among the bowlers, DD will expect skipper Zaheer Khan and Amit Mishra to tie down the opposition batsmen. Given the history of the conditions in Delhi, one could also expect the team to bring in the South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir, possibly at the expense of Nathan Coulter-Nile.

Murali Vijay timed the ball very well in KXIP’s match against the Gujarat Lions. The Tamil Nadu batsmen is among few batsmen around who has the talent, temperament and skills to succeed in longer version of the game as well as in T20s – all this without taking any undue risks. David Miller and Glenn Maxwell can cause plenty of damage in very little time and hence they will be important characters in KXIP’s batting plans. On the bowling front, KXIP lack experienced international spinners in their ranks, and hence they will rely heavily on the likes of Mitchell Johnson and Chris Morris to provide them breakthroughs.

Trivia

Among the six teams who have been in the IPL from before this season, Delhi Daredevils is the only team to have lost more matches than they have won at HQ. Off the 44 matches DD have played at the Feroz Shah Kotla, they have won only 16, giving them a success rate of 37.2.

In the last 18 IPL matches played at the Feroz Shah Kotla, starting with the 2013 seasons, teams chasing down targets have been extremely successful, winning 13 matches. The average first innings total in those 18 matches was 153.

Play Bold – the Brendon McCullum way

When the top 10 international teams were locked in a battle to assert T20 supremacy in the ICC World T20, the format’s superstar was missing from the action. The return to the big stage in Mohali against Kings XI Punjab after a hiatus was low key and lasted just two balls. His fans were beginning to get a tad nervous, but before they would get impatient, Brendon McCullum reassured them that his charm had not withered away with a breezy 49 off 30 balls on a windy Thursday night.

The opening batsman rekindled the old magic and handed the packed house a bagful of joyous moments as Gujarat Lions kicked off their home campaign on a promising note with a seven-wicket win against Rising Pune Supergiants.

The Trans-Tasmanian opening pair of Aaron Finch-McCullum put on 85 for the first wicket and by the time both returned back to the dug-out, the match was firmly sealed. Despite being stumped for a duck in the first game, McCullum stepped out again and dispatched the first ball he faced for a four.

When the affable Kiwi settled down for a chat with IPLT20.com on some aspects of his batting, he underlined the need to back one’s instinct. The former Black Caps captain made it clear that aggression is his forte and he is in no mood to cut down his destructive game. Bowlers, please note.

It was a tremendous knock on a pitch that had a fair bit grass cover and was assisting swing bowling early on.

I was really pleased to make a contribution. I didn't do anything in the last game and was a bit of a passenger. The partnership Aaron Finch and I were able to create gave us a very good platform. He is in incredible form and has got back to back (half-centuries) for us. He is proving to be a very vital cog in our wheel.

It must feel special to secure a win in your first home game

It is really special. We were not sure how many fans were going to turn up. We knew we would get a good crowd. The stadium was full; they were loving every minute of it. To be able to get an impressive win over a very good Pune side in your home conditions is a good sign for the remaining home games. I hope they enjoy the upcoming games too.

You got out without scoring in the first game. Did that dismissal bother you at all as you attacked from the first ball again?

Look, that's the way I play. With a strong batting line-up, my role is to be aggressive. Sometimes you are going to miss out, but the key is to not change your approach. You’ve got to maintain that intensity and that to me, is to be aggressive. You’ve got to keep doing it.

You keep coming down the track. Is it to generate momentum or play with a bowler’s psyche?

At times, I am trying to create the momentum, but at times, you are also sending a message that you are trying to attack. Sometimes you come down, sometimes you sit back and try and play aggressive. You’ve got to be pro-active in T20. You may get out, but at least you are taking the aggressive approach.

Your bat swing is probably the swiftest in world cricket. Have you ever thought about it?

I am having a sore back, maybe because I swing the bat so hard!

Gujarat Lions have won both their games. What do you think of Suresh Raina’s captaincy?

I think in these first two games; his captaincy has been outstanding. In both the games, we got off to a rough start with the ball, but he has remained calm, composed under pressure and made sound decisions. He has been able to motivate the team when the game is on the line and it is not an easy skill to do. His leadership includes other leaders as well, it works well with the coach and he is always trying to create an environment and culture for the group. He is new to captaincy, but I think he has a massive future.

New Zealand and Australia are fierce rivals. How is opening the batting with an Aussie for a Kiwi?

The fierce rivalry is made out to be bigger than what it is. We're trying to do the same thing. That's the beauty of the IPL. It brings guys from different countries and cultures together to try and achieve a common goal. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, but one thing you take back from the IPL is great friendships, which lasts a long time after you've finished playing.

Are James Faulkner and Dwayne Bravo the best T20 bowlers?

Faulkner is going to get better and better as he plays more. He is a world class bowler and he is just getting his stride back. He is going to be a big player for us. He will play a role with the bat at some point and we know how devastating he can be.
In my opinion, Dwayne Bravo is the best overseas player in the IPL. He is so valuable with ball, bat and in the field and is a leader. We are very lucky to have him.

What was your training like coming into the IPL?

After the Test match against Australia, I had about five-six weeks off because I had a bad back, which I nursed through the summer. I was trying to get that right and it is still troubling me a little bit. Luckily, we've got an outstanding physio and masseur. My training wasn't much. I was trying to do aerobic fitness. I have just come over here looking to enjoy the experience of playing with the new team and playing in the IPL again.

You get so much love from fans all over the world. They want you to keep playing. Did that ever make you reconsider your decision?

(Laughs) I definitely won't be coming out of retirement. I had a great 14 years playing international cricket. I toured the world with best mates and represented my country for a long time. All good things must come to an end. I am now on the T20 circuit and enjoying that as well. It comes with different experiences and probably not the same pressure as you are under when you are playing for your country.

I am just enjoying being here. I love India. It is an incredible country. The IPL is an amazing initiative, which has captivated not only this country, but countries all over the world. I feel very lucky to be a part of it.

Pakistan Women under Sana Mir have the best chance to win ICC Women’s T20 2016

Pakistan Women’s captain Sana Mir has always led from the front, and has turned the side into one of the most formidable units in the world. Her off-spinners and useful contributions with bat down the order have taken Pakistan a long way. They are one of the firm favourites to win the ICC World T20 2016 and after beating West Indies Women in their opening match, the team will surely be oozing with confidence for the remaining matches. Sana has led Pakistan Women in 62 Women’s T20Is out of a total of 64 matches since 2009. She has lead Pakistan to great heights during her tenure as captain. Full Scorecard: India Women vs India Women, ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2016, Match 7 at Delhi
Sana led Pakistan to a Gold Medal in 2010 Asian Games. She not only flourished as a player, but she has let the others too come up the ranks. She is the eighth-ranked bowler in Women’s ODI ranking, and has consistently been in the top 20 of Women’s T20I rankings for the past nine years.
Under Sana’s leadership, over eight players have broken through to the top 20 of ICC rankings. This shows that Sana is someone who can carry the team along with her. Pakistan have already suffered a major setback after losing their star opening batter Javeria Khan after she was struck on the jaw in the opening match of the tournament, and how Sana inspires her team will define things for Pakistan Women through the tournament.
Pakistan Women have a strong squad, but will rely in Sana, who idolises the likes of Imran Khan and Waqar Younis. She recently revealed that MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli are her favourite contemporary: cricketers “There are couple of names. If I just talk about my players, I think Virat Kohli is the favourite cricketer. Personally, Dhoni is my favourite player because he had led India. He has handled himself well on and off the field. He has transformed a team of juniors into an effective unit.”
Just like under Dhoni, many players have blossomed under her. Pakistan Women may not have tasted a lot of success but are certainly heading in the right path under Sana’s leadership.source-intoday

Shane Warne wants to coach Team India

Leg-spin legend Shane Warne on Friday expressed his desire to coach the Indian cricket team if he is approached for the role in the near future.
Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri is currently the team director. He is expected to leave his post after the conclusion of the World Twenty20 tournament.
The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to appoint a full term coach for the national side.
And Warne said that he had never said no in his life to anything when it comes to the game and is open to coach the side if such an opportunity arises. (Also read: Took the bullet for my Indian colleagues by asking Dhoni about retirement, says Aussie journalist)
"I would love to work with the Indian team. I think they are a very talented team, wonderful team to work for. There is a lot of pressure, a billion plus people supporting the Indian team, if you make a mistake you cop it. If the opportunity came about, I would think about it," Warne said.
"I have never said no in my life to anything. I have always been open for anything, whether that is coaching India, coaching an Indian Premier League (IPL) team, coaching England, maybe not. I definitely want to stay involved in cricket. I love commentary and I hope people enjoy listening to me. I am not sure I am ready to coach right now, maybe down the track but I never say no to an opportunity."
"If an opportunity presents itself or comes to my door I would always weigh it up and then give an honest answer about what I think. If you can't give 100 percent to whatever it maybe then you are better off saying no. But that if opportunity came and you say you would love to do it then everything else stops and you can take up that opportunity that may be," the 46-year-old added.
India suffered a shock seven-wicket loss to the West Indies in the World T20 semi-final clash at the Wankhede Stadium here on Thursday. Batting first, India posted a competitive total of 192/2 in 20 overs, thanks to Virat Kohli's 89.
In reply, a brave Windies side, riding on Lendl Simmons' unbeaten 83 and Johnson Charles' 52, chased down the total posting 196/3 in 19.4 overs.
Warne heaped praise on India's star batsman Kohli but said that lack of basics let the hosts down in the semis.
"Yesterday India didn't get their basics right, they bowled a few no-balls, etc. etc. I was disappointed because I had backed India to win the tournament before a ball was bowled. I thought India vs England final would be good," he said.
"When you got a star player like Kohli, I think you got a blank piece of paper and you say 'who is your first pick T20 player' and for me it is Kohli. I would select him at No.3, that is my first selection. Second would probably be Chris Gayle for the opening position."
Warne further added, "Talking about Kohli, I don't think India rely too much on him at all. He has done so well. He batted beautifully last night. 192 was a good score but the Indians didn't bowl well enough. And a couple of no-balls cost them, the dew cost them, (Ravichandran) Ashwin bowled only two overs. (Ravindra) Jadeja's tactics of bowling wide of off-stump and three points, he went for 48 runs in his four overs, I don't think he got it quite right either."source-intoday

Ravi Shastri likely to become Team India coach

Ravi Shastri has had his highs and lows as the director of the Indian Cricket team since he assumed post in 2014. He had helped the team reach the semi-finals of 50-over World Cup in 2015 and the World T20 in 2016. However, he was not able to do much about a bad limted-overs season in 2015 in which India lost an away series to Bangladesh and to South Africa at home.
With his contract coming to a close, the BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur on Friday said that it can be up for renewal if the high-profile Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly deems fit.
The BCCI had signed a contract with Shastri till the end of the ICC World T20 and it came to an end immediately after India's ouster in the semi-final. However Shastri's contract, in case renewed, will be of full-time coach and not director.
Meanwhile, former Australia leg-spinner Shane Warne had also indicated that he would like to coach India.
"Ravi Shastri's contract has ended. We are looking at a full-time coach and the decision will be taken by the Cricket Advisory Committee. There won't be a Team Director and a full-time coach. It will be only one post and even Ravi's contract can come up for renewal," BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur told PTI on Friday.
Asked about chances of Shastri, who has been a popular choice among some of the senior, getting a second term, Thakur said: "It will entirely be CAC's call. But it will be the post of a full-time coach. CAC has been asked to shortlist the names of the possible candidates for the post."
The decision on the new appointment or renewal will be taken after the ICC World T20 final between West Indies and England on Sunday.
"The meeting of the CAC is expected to happen post April 3. It can happen before the start of the IPL also. We will have to decide on the date," said Thakur.
Shastri had taken over in 2014 after India lost the Test series against England 1-3. Under him, the Indian team won the ODI series in England, lost Test series in Australia 0-2 and did not qualify for the finals of the tri-series.
But his high-point will be guiding the team to the semi-finals of the 50-over World Cup in 2-15 and a 3-0 whitewash of the Australian team in the T20 Internationals Down Under.
India under Virat Kohli also won the Test series 3-0 against South Africa having lost the T20 and the ODI series.
Most of the Indian cricketers have been a fan of Shastri's man-management skills and he has always lavished praise on the senior cricketers. He has compared Virat Kohli with Viv Richards, told the media not mess with a "legends like MS Dhoni".
Players like Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan, who have seen poor patches of form more often than not, have also been a fan of Shastri for keeping their morale up.source-intoday

PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan refuses to step down

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan has ruled out the possibility of his resignation in the wake of team's dismal Asia Cup and ICC World Twenty20 campaigns.
Shahid Afridi and his men were knocked out of the Asia Cup following a loss against Bangladesh and subsequently they also failed to reach the World T20 semi-final after losing three of their four group matches.
The PCB formed a fact finding committee to ascertain the reasons for the team's poor show in the two major events. The report, which was supposed to be confidential, was leaked in the media creating a crisis in the cricket board.
Soon after, it was widely reported in the Pakistan media that the PCB chairman, miffed with the leaked reports, has contemplated resignation.
However, the 82-year-old veteran insisted there was no truth in the media speculations.
"There is no truth in the rumours that I am considering stepping down," he told the media yesterday.
Khan, who is serving his second term as PCB chairman, has refused to comment on the committee's report for now.source-intoday

ICC Women's World Twenty20: Australia gunning for fourth title, West Indies in the way

Three-time winners Australia will be eyeing their fourth title when they take on  an in-form West Indies in the final of the ICC Women's World Twenty20 at the Eden Gardens tomorrow.
The Australian team, popularly known as the Southern Stars, have been unstoppable since their inaugural win in 2010. On their road to the final, Australia escaped a scare from arch-rivals England and managed a five-run victory in the semi-finals. (Also read: Joe Root sounds out warning to West Indies ahead of World T20 title clash)
Their captain Meg Lanning has been their leading run-scorer in the competition with 149 runs. She played a crucial role in the semis with a 50-ball 55 to take Australia to a competitive total of 132/6. (Full World T20 coverage)
What was impressive for Australia was the fact that other players chipped in too. They were provided a strong start from the openers as Alyssa Healy and Elyse Villani knit a brisk 41-run partnership.
"We've been pleased with our squad of 15 and our overall performance. I disagree that we relied heavily on one player. We've chased low totals. We've really benefited from the way Elyse Villani has kicked into gears and taken the game away in the opening overs," Australian vice-captain Alex Blackwell had told the media here.
"You can't ignore the impact of someone like Alyssa Healy and the way she took on Katherine... Small contributions can really be of high impact. Obviously Meg Lanning has been a real rock for us throughout. We've got plenty of players around. Ellyse Perry has been instrumental in our batting order in the recent years."
The wicket at the Eden Gardens is likely to spin, and therefore leg spinner Kristen Beams will look to be at the top of her game here along with left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen. The duo can easily have the West Indies under pressure if the wicket does offer purchase.
Megan Schutt and Rene Farrell with their slower deliveries may also be a handful in such conditions.
West Indies on the other hand, have nothing to lose. This is their first time in the final and they are going into it a confident side.
"We are very excited. It is our first final. So we need to stay focused and be calm. We will have to go out there and fight it out," West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor said at the pre match media conference.
Taylor with 187 runs from five matches has been the consistent performer for the Windies and her side will again look upto her to deliver in the finals.
Deandra Dottin, Healey Matthews and Shaquana Quintyne have also come good in the ongoing tournament and skipper Taylor will hope the team plays to their potential and delivers against the inform Australians.source-intoday

England vs West Indies, T20 World Cup 2016, Final at Kolkata: David Willey vs Chris Gayle and other key battles

Key-battles
As we near towards the final showdown of this edition of ICC T20 World Cup 2016, with 2010 champions England and 2012 champions West Indies taking on each other for the second time in this tournament. The first time, these two team clashed was in Match No. 15 of the T20 World Cup which West Indies, thanks to Chris Gayle chased down England’s mammoth target of 182 runs. Gayle in this match remained unbeaten 100, since that loss Gayle has not been himself with the bat. England on the other hand have Joe Root to thank for their revival, inspiring them chase down South Africa’s total of 229. With such power houses on display, Vishal Mehra has a look at some of the fierce combat that might add fuel to the already lit fire under their belly.
Chris Gayle vs David Willey: Chris Gayle who was touted to be the main man for West Indies in the semi-final against India, could not show his batting skills making only 5 runs. Knowing that his favourite team in the tournament will be back into the foray, it will only add to his confidence. On the other hand, England will bank on David Willey to knock back Gayle before he storms through their bowling line-up. Willey has so far been their best bowler, picking up 7 wickets from five matches. The conflict between Gayle’s hitting and Willey’s exponents with the ball will be intriguing to watch for all cricket lovers. Live Cricket Score: England vs West Indies, T20 World Cup 2016, Final at Kolkata
Joe Root vs Samuel Badree: Joe Root has been England’s Virat Kohli — Amassing runs at his own merry ways so far in this tournament. Root inspired England on the path to glory after scathing South Africa’s bowler in successfully chasing down 229.  To Root’s credit he has had contributions from other batsmen unlike Kohli, who has solely carried the weight of India’s batting. Samuel Badree, has been a ideal replacement for Sunil Narine carrying the spinning responsibilities for the West Indies. Badree so far has picked 7 wickets at an miserly economy of 5.68. Given his performance against India, Root will find it tough to nudge him for runs. Root in the T20 World Cup has shown how well he plays spin, hence the spar with Badree will be a mouth-watering show.
Andre Russell vs Jos Buttler: Andre Russell has been the go to bowler for West Indies in this T20 World Cup. Russell has presented himself at crucial moments during the final overs, so far picking up 8 wickets with at an economy rate on a higher side at 8.40. Russell’s pace variation has been a boon for them, knowing Eden Gardens better than most players because of his association with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) will only help him against England. Jos Buttler has been a revelation for England. Buttler has has a phenomenal strike rate of 158.16, making him one the most feared batsmen in the death overs to bowl at.
Ben Stokes vs Dwayne Bravo: Ben Stokes has been the most effective bowler in this edition of T20 World Cup,  bowling as many as 50 per cent dot balls in the overs 16 to 20, which by far is the best by any bowler. Dwayne Bravo on the other hand, is a smart bowling, allowing no pace for the batsmen to hit runs in the final overs, with his well disguised slow balls. Stokes and Bravo have abilities to clear the fence at any given moment but have not been particularly impressive with bat in hand. This surely will be the battle of death bowling bowlers.
Moeen Ali vs Lendl Simmons: Moeen Ali has been one of the most underrated bowler, being constantly taken to the cleaners by batsmen. But his wicket-taking abilities have come in handy, having picked up 5 wickets in the tournament so far. Moeen was a game changer in tie against Afghanistan with bat and ball. Lendl Simmons on the other is the currently the most talked about West Indies player among Indian fans. Simmons, who a few days back sitting idle back home, has now become this superstar within his team . Given that Simmons was dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin off a no-ball, could be troubled with the spin of Moeen at Eden Gardens.

India vs West Indies, World T20: Two No-Balls That Cost Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Men A Final Berth

West Indies batsman Lendl Simmons plays a shot during the World T20 semifinal match against India at Wankhede Cricket Stadium in Mumbai.

Mumbai: India seemed to be doing almost everything right versus West Indies in the World T20 semifinal, till two small errors happened. They were two no-balls by Ravichandran Ashwin and Hardik Pandya. It cost Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men the chance to win the tournament for the second time. India lost by seven wickets. (India vs West Indies semifinal Highlights | Scorecard)
After Virat Kohli's stellar 89* took India to a challenging total of 192/2, Indian bowlers gave the hosts a great start to reduce West Indies to 19/2.
However, Lendl Simmons and Johnson Charles had some other ideas. The duo hit Indian bowlers for cleaners as Wankhede Stadium gasped.
However, on the fifth ball of the seventh over Simmons, batting at 18, thick-edged Ashwin's delivery to Jasprit Bumrah at short third-man, who took a stunner. Wankhede erupted in joy, but got silenced a minute later as it was adjudged that Ashwi had over-stepped.
Simmons then went on to complete his half-century in 35 balls as West Indies galloped towards the target.
Another opportunity came on the final ball of the 15th over by Pandya, as Simmons was caught by Ashwin at cover. But again, a no ball came in between as Pandya was adjudged to have over-stepped.
Simmons went on to make 82 not out (off 51 balls) and take West Indies into the final with a stunning win.

Chris Gayle is The Best But West Indies Have 15 Match-Winners: Darren Sammy

Darren Sammy celebrates with West Indies team after it entered the World T20.
was a double whammy for the West Indies on Thursday. After their women's team entered the final, Darren Sammy men booked a berth in the title round with a stunning seven-wicket win against tournament favourites India in Mumbai.
The match was billed as a contest between Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle but the script unfolded very differently. While Kohli smashed a brilliant 89 off 47 balls, Gayle was bowled by Jasprit Bumrah for 5 to give India an early advantage.
But Lendl Simmons pummeled the Indian attack and rode two chances to score a 51-ball 82 to knock India out. Simmons and Andre Russell (43 off 20 balls) took the game away with a 80-run stand that left India gasping for breath.
Sammy was all praise for his batsmen who handled the pressure very well in front of a packed Wankhede Stadium rooting for the home team.
Massive step for West Indies: Sammy
"We knew it was going to be a massive step, against a very good India team, I must commend the whole team, we knew halfway they were 10 runs short. Even when we lost Gayle, Simmons, Charles and Russell took the responsibility," said Sammy.
"I was just praying we win the toss, I surprised myself winning five out of five. We came here on a mission, we were inspired by the U-19 boys earlier this year, the ladies won earlier today, now we have two West Indies team in the final.
"We feel this is this West Indies team against everyone else. Everyone said Chris is under pressure but I said it, we have 15 match winners," said Sammy.
One of my better innings: Lendl Simmons
Man of the Match Simmons was cool about his knock and the stunning win. He came in as a last-minute replacement for the injured Andre Fletcher and delivered in his first match.
"I slept the whole flight, I had got a call after the Afghanistan game and they asked if I was fit to play, I said yeah ... I played for Mumbai, I enjoy this pitch. I think it was one of my better innings ... I got the opportunity to prove myself to my fans
"Playing on this pitch I know 180-190 was a par score. The guys said they were 10 runs short, I believed that ... I got three chances, two no-balls and a six went my way and I cashed in." source:.ndtv.

ICC World Twenty20: Factors that could hurt Team India’s dream of clinching second title

Follow
The International Cricket Council’s flagship event World Twenty20 is all set to start, and considering the fact that the marquee event is taking place in India, Mahendra Singh Dhoni & Co certainly have a slight edge over the others. However, that’s not the only reason India are the favourites going into the tournament, where 10 teams will be fighting for the coveted trophy.
India have been in exceptional form in the shortest format since the start of the year. They have played eight matches thus far, losing just once and winning the rest by considerable margins after blanking Australia 3-0 Down Under and beating Sri Lanka 2-1 at home. Men in Blue proved their mettle in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2016 as well, where they defeated hosts Bangladesh to clinch their sixth title, in a tournament which was played for the first time in T20 format.
Many cricket pundits and most importantly the bookies too have rated India as the top contender to liftthe trophy for the second time under skipper Dhoni, eight years after he led them to their maiden World T20 title.
Most of the boxes got ticked for India ahead of the major event.
Even though everything is falling in place for Dhoni, the ‘Colonel’ and his troops still have to keep few things in mind to accomplish the mission.
Here are some factors which could hurt Team India and its World T20 campaign.
Vulnerability against pacers, moving ball: Even though India have been in exceptional form in the shortest format of late, we have witnessed how their batting collapsed against Sri Lanka on a green top in Pune. Their power-packed batting line up fell like ninepins and India got bundled out for a paltry 101. After few matches, once again Indian top-order was all at sea against Pakistan in Asia Cup, when Mohammad Amir was calling the shots. At one stage, India were reduced to 8 for 3, while chasing a small total of 83. It shows the vulnerability of Indian batsmen against quality fast bowlers and seamer-friendly wickets.
Highly unpredictable format: T20 cricket is also known as slam bang cricket. And it’s so unpredictable, that even minnows could upset the title contenders in a four-hour duel. Situations change swiftly in this format and one bad over can turn the entire complexion of the game, or for that matter, decide the winner. Reputation, past laurels or recent form don’t really matter much in this format. A team has to win seven matches at a stretch to win the tourney. It means, one loss at a crucial juncture could shatter the dreams. Even after having the favourites tag, India have to show impeccable consistency to lift the trophy as there is no room for complacency as one poor outing can prove to be costly.
Other title contenders: India are certainly the hot favourites to win the title, but other teams like Australia, South Africa and New Zealand too, are the likely contenders to raise the honour. Keeping the format in mind, one can’t even underestimate the West Indies, who boast of certain players that are masters of this format. And if they play to their true potential, Pakistan could also emerge as a threat, as the tournament is taking place in sub-continent.
Injury concerns: Team India’s playing XI is almost decided and Dhoni has made it pretty clear by playing the same set of people, ahead of World T20. But injuries could put India in spot of bother and might mar their chances of lifting the coveted trophy. Indian skipper suffered muscle spasm in the Asia Cup, which is certainly not a good sign for the team. Premier bowler Mohammed Shami is also making a comeback after a prolonged injury. A niggle forced opener Shikhar Dhwan to sit out in a high-profile clash against Pakistan in Asia Cup. Ageing Ashish Nehra is one of the most fragile and injury-prone bowlers in the world. Considering all this, team management and staff have to make sure all players remain in good shape throughout India’s World T20 campaign.   source:.india.com

Everything you want to know about the World T20 venues

The world's biggest T20 spectacle is being played in India for the first time. As the country hosts the ICC's cricket carnival, here's a look at the eight grounds that will host the 58 matches over 27 days, from March 8 to April 3.
Eden Gardens, Kolkata
Eden Gardens
Considered one of the best cricket stadiums in the world, the Eden Gardens in Kolkata is the second largest stadium after the Melbourne Cricket Ground, with a capacity in excess of 65,000.
It was allotted the marquee India-Pakistan match on March 19 after the ICC decided against staging it at Dharmasala following security concerns.
For opposition teams the venue can be a very intimidating place to play in, what with a packed stadium acting as a 12th man supporting the home team.
- Schedule: ICC World T20 2016
Home of Indian Premier League side Kolkata Knight Riders, it witnessed fireworks in the very first match of IPL history, with Brendon McCullum smashing a quickfire 158 to set the tournament rolling.
However, the stadium is better-known for V V S Laxman's 281 and his partnership with Rahul Dravid against Australia, which scripted one of the greatest come-from-behind victories in Test cricket.
More recently, Rohit Sharma marked the 150th anniversary of the ground with a 173-ball 264, the highest ODI score.
The Eden Gardens will host five games of the ICC World T20 2016, including Pakistan v Group A topper (March 16), Sri Lanka v Group B topper (March 17), India v Pakistan (March 19), Group A topper v New Zealand (March 26) and the final on April 3.
It will also host the ICC women's World T20 final on April 3.
M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
Chinnaswamy stadium
With a capacity of 40,000 spectators, the stadium, located in Bangalore, Karnataka, is one of India's premier grounds.
The M Chinnaswamy Stadium made history by becoming the world's first solar powered cricket venue in 2015.
Home to batting-heavy IPL side Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the stadium recently enthralled cricket fans with thrilling sixes by Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli.
It was the venue for the debut of West Indies greats Viv Richards and Gordon Greenidge, as well as Sunil Gavaskar's last innings.
The cricket pitch at the stadium rarely follows the 'turning track' axiom that is followed by other venues in India.
The stadium will play host to the inaugural ICC women's World T20 2016 fixture between India and Bangladesh on March 15.
It will also host the England Women v Bangladesh Women (March 17), South Africa Women v New Zealand Women (March 26) and South Africa Women v Sri Lanka Women (March 30). Four warm-up games will also be held.
Featured men's matches include Sri Lanka v West Indies (March 20), and Australia and India against the topper from Group A (March 21 and 23 respectively).
Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai
Wankhede Stadium
While it doesn’t share the history or romance that older cricket grounds like the Eden Gardens, Feroz Shah Kotla or Chepauk Stadium do, the Wankhede stadium entered into folklore with the splendid straight six hit by skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, which sealed India's victory that crowned them World champions in 2011.
Born out of a dispute between the Bombay Cricket Association (now renamed Mumbai Cricket Association) and the Brabourne Stadium’s caretakers - the Cricket Club of India, the Wankhede Stadium was built in 1975.
It has stands named after famous Indian cricketers, like Vijay Merchant, Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar.
The stadium also witnessed Tendulkar's emotional farewell.
The Wankhede will host West Indies v England (March 16), South Africa v England (March 18), South Africa v Group B topper (March 20), as well as the second semi-final on March 31.
It will also host the women's semi-final ahead of the men's.
PCA Stadium, Mohali
The PCA stadium in Mohali
Two of the most memorable World Cup semi-finals were played on this ground, with Australia edging out the West Indies in 1996 in a nail-biting encounter, while the more recent India's semi-final victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in 2011 was attended by leaders of both countries.
With a capacity of 28,000 spectators, the ground boasts of unconventional lights compared to other cricket stadiums. The light pillars have been erected comparatively lower in height to avoid aircraft from the nearby airport colliding with it.
Pakistan will play two matches at the venue, against New Zealand (March 22) and Australia (March 25). Australia will also play India here (March 27).
Among the ICC women's World T20 2016 matches, Ireland Women will play New Zealand Women (March 18) and Sri Lanka Women (March 20), while West Indies Women take on India Women (March 27).
HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala
The HPCA stadium in Dharamsala
The stadium was in the news ever since the all-important India-Pakistan encounter in the upcoming World T20 was allotted to it.
However, after recent statements by Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh, who opposed the March 19 match against India's arch-rivals, there were concerns about security at the venue and the International Cricket Council decided to move it to the iconic Eden Gardens, in Kolkata.
Unarguably the most scenic cricket ground in India, the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, set against the backdrop of the dramatic snow clad mountains, is perched on the high slopes 1317m above sea level.
Dharamsala has become synonymous to the Tibetan government in exile and the home town of Tibetan leader Dalai Lama along with the cricket stadium.
The first ODI played at the venue in January 2013 saw England beat India and Ian Bell scoring a hundred.
Dharamsala will host all Group A fixtures featuring Bangladesh, the Netherlands, Ireland and Oman. It will also host the Australia v New Zealand (March 18) match.
England women will play two matches here, against India Women (March 22) and West Indies Women (March 24).
Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi

Mired in controversies for the past six months, the Feroz Shah Kotla got a last minute nod to host World T20 matches.
This Delhi stadium most recently lost out on an international match (T20I against Sri Lanka) to Ranchi owing to failure of the local board -- Delhi and District Cricket Association -- to procure the necessary clearance from the government.
Preparations are now in full swing for the marquee T20 event with the DDCA's reputation at stake.
The Kotla has seen many a cricketing feat, but none more famous than Anil Kumble's ten wickets in an innings against Pakistan in 1999.
The stadium has been allotted four men's and six women's matches, including one semi-final for both.
Before that, England plays Group B topper (March 23) and Sri Lanka (March 26), while South Africa takes on Sri Lanka (March 28).
ICC women's World T20 2016 games include New Zealand Women v Sri Lanka Women (March 15), India Women v Pakistan Women (March 19), Australia Women v Sri Lanka Women (March 24), Pakistan Women v Bangladesh Women (March 24) and Australia Women v Ireland Women (March 26), apart from the semi-final on March 30.
MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
M A Chidambaram stadium
Regarded as the fortress of ousted BCCI chief Narayanswami Srinivasan and suspended IPL team Chennai Super Kings, the stadium in Chennai hasn't been allotted any men's matches in the high-profile tournament.
The M A Chidambaram Stadium has problems, with three stands being locked down due to issues with the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, but even with the loss of 12,000 seats, it can still host 24,000 people.
Indeed, Chennai appears to be worst-hit by the winds of change within the BCCI.
The stadium will host five women's WT20 2016 warm-up matches, before West Indies Women v Pakistan Women (March 16), West Indies Women v Bangladesh Women (March 20), South Africa Women v Ireland Women (March 23) and England Women v Pakistan Women (March 27).

It was more recently in the news during India's third Test against South Africa when the ICC termed the pitch in Nagpur as poor.
The new Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium at Jamtha, Nagpur, opened in 2008 and replaced the old one.
Spread across 33 acres, the new stadium claims world-class practice facilities and modern infrastructure. The only T20I played at the venue had Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara scoring 78 off 37 balls and leading his team to a 29-run victory over India in December 2009.
The stadium has a busy schedule for the ICC World T20 2016. It will host nine men's fixtures, including all six Group B matches between Scotland, Hong Kong, Zimbabwe and Afghanistan. India v New Zealand (March 15) and the West Indies v South Africa (March 25) and West Indies v Group B topper (March 27) are the other games.
Australia women's matches against South Africa (March 18) and New Zealand (March 21) will also be at this venue.
