IPL 2016, RPS vs RCB: Harsha Bhogle takes a dig at Mahendra Singh Dhoni after uncharacteristic knock

IPL 2016, RPS vs RCB: Harsha Bhogle takes a dig at Mahendra Singh Dhoni after uncharacteristic knock
Right through the tournament, the senior commentator has offered insights for followers of the game on social media and newspaper columns.
On Friday, Bhogle took at dig at Rising Pune Supergiants skipper MS Dhoni after he was dismissed for 41 off 38 balls.
Dhoni walked in to bat after Steve Smith's dismissal but was unable to finish the match for his side.
The wicketkeeper-batsman started off slowly and lost his wicket when it was time to go for the big hits.
Indian Premier League 2016: Three reasons why Harsha Bhogle could have been dropped as commentator by BCCI
MUST READ

Taking to social micro-blogging site Twitter, Bhogle wrote, "180+ run chase. 41 (38) can't win it for you. Some days it might come off but most days it won't from there."
Bhogle's serious cricket observation, was seen through the prism of the recent controversy involving him by most of his followers.
It is believed that Dhoni was unhappy with an Indian commentator during the ICC WT20. This was evident when he endorsed Amitabh Bachchan's remarks after India's 1-run win over Bangladesh.
While Bhogle's name was never mentioned, his sacking by the BCCI meant something was not right.

Virat Kohli: Facets which define the supreme rise of star Indian batsman

Chaitan Papnai
Real Picture

‘Miracles don’t happen; you have to make your own miracle,’ thus Virat Kohli and others sold India's World Twenty20 dreams in a promotional video. It's a different matter that it failed to come to fruition. But the tag line seems apt for the top-order Indian batsman, who has made it a habit of taking his team out of trouble more often than not.
His unbeaten match-winning knock against a formidable Australian bowling line-up, in a virtual quarter-final clash of the World T20, was one such act. The dynamic cricketer has done this so many times in the past that his fans now expect such performances every time he steps on to the field.
With the help of his sheer hardwork and strong will, the Delhi batsman has taken his game to another level. His miraculous 55* against Pakistan and 82* against Australia and a splendid 89* against eventual champions West Indies in WT20, illustrates how well he reads the game.
It seems as if he has started to meander his aggression in the right direction. His sheer chutzpah and ability to take up the challenge head-on make him a dangerous batsman.
Here are the five factors that make Virat Kohli a superstar in the gentleman’s game.
Conventional style: In the slam-bang version of the game, where most of the batsmen try cheeky shots to score runs at a rapid pace, Kohli has a knack of playing with the straight bat and hitting conventional shots. His ability to find gaps and hit boundaries at will, even when the ball is not coming on to the bat, puts the opposition bowlers and skippers under immense pressure. England’s Joe Root and Kohli are possibly the only two batsmen in contemporary cricket who can snatch the game away even while playing proper copy book shots in the shortest format. Art of finding gaps with ease and playing in the ‘V’ makes their batting look even more beautiful.
Fitness: It is certainly an important part in the life of a sportsperson, but in the Indian cricket team, Kohli is a fitness freak, who religiously hits the gym to strengthen his body. That’s the reason he is one of the best fielders in the Indian team and an outstanding runner between the wickets. His sprints in WT20, especially against Australia and West Indies were a treat to watch. The way he ran between the wickets and put the fielding units under constant pressure shows how fitness can help you push your limits and achieve the target with ease.
Finisher: At a time when many are of the view that an ageing Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s has lost his mojo to finish off the games, run-machine Kohli seems to have taken up the role for the Indian team. His record while chasing has always been exceptional, but the way he has been finishing games of late for Team India has proved that he has taken his game to next level. The big-match player is emerging as a new finisher for his side. Considering the fact that he is not a big hitter of the ball, his ability to pace innings to perfection while chasing – irrespective of the target, big or small – forces the opposition to doff their hats to the stylish cricketer.
Consistency: This is the hallmark of his batting and that’s the reason the 27-year-old has been the mainstay of Indian cricket team for the last half-a-decade or so, in all forms of the game. Even with so many big-hitters and dangerous batsmen in world cricket, Kohli has managed to make a special place for himself. In limited-overs cricket, he has a stupendous average of over 50 (in ODIs & T20Is), with 25 tons and 52 half-centuries. In Test cricket, his average is a shade above 44, with 11 hundreds and 12 fifties under his belt. More than anything else, his stature is growing with every passing match.
New facet of his personality: Kohli is known for his flamboyance and on-field antics, but of late, he has shown a new side of his personality. He praised tainted Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir openly for his memorable spell against India in the Asia Cup T20. In fact, he then went a step further to gift him a bat ahead of the high-profile cash against the arch-rivals in the WT20. His demeanor has changed significantly over the years. Now one can easily feel the tranquility in his personality, which was missing earlier. He bats more purposefully now, which is certainly a good sign for the future of Indian cricket.
Barring the forgettable England tour, the Delhi-lad has hardly disappointed with the willow. The way he has been batting, he is not just destined to break many cricket records in the near future but to become an icon of young cricketers as well

Pakistan Women under Sana Mir have the best chance to win ICC Women’s T20 2016

Pakistan Women’s captain Sana Mir has always led from the front, and has turned the side into one of the most formidable units in the world. Her off-spinners and useful contributions with bat down the order have taken Pakistan a long way. They are one of the firm favourites to win the ICC World T20 2016 and after beating West Indies Women in their opening match, the team will surely be oozing with confidence for the remaining matches. Sana has led Pakistan Women in 62 Women’s T20Is out of a total of 64 matches since 2009. She has lead Pakistan to great heights during her tenure as captain. Full Scorecard: India Women vs India Women, ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2016, Match 7 at Delhi
Sana led Pakistan to a Gold Medal in 2010 Asian Games. She not only flourished as a player, but she has let the others too come up the ranks. She is the eighth-ranked bowler in Women’s ODI ranking, and has consistently been in the top 20 of Women’s T20I rankings for the past nine years.
Under Sana’s leadership, over eight players have broken through to the top 20 of ICC rankings. This shows that Sana is someone who can carry the team along with her. Pakistan have already suffered a major setback after losing their star opening batter Javeria Khan after she was struck on the jaw in the opening match of the tournament, and how Sana inspires her team will define things for Pakistan Women through the tournament.
Pakistan Women have a strong squad, but will rely in Sana, who idolises the likes of Imran Khan and Waqar Younis. She recently revealed that MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli are her favourite contemporary: cricketers “There are couple of names. If I just talk about my players, I think Virat Kohli is the favourite cricketer. Personally, Dhoni is my favourite player because he had led India. He has handled himself well on and off the field. He has transformed a team of juniors into an effective unit.”
Just like under Dhoni, many players have blossomed under her. Pakistan Women may not have tasted a lot of success but are certainly heading in the right path under Sana’s leadership.source-intoday

Shane Warne wants to coach Team India

Leg-spin legend Shane Warne on Friday expressed his desire to coach the Indian cricket team if he is approached for the role in the near future.
Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri is currently the team director. He is expected to leave his post after the conclusion of the World Twenty20 tournament.
The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to appoint a full term coach for the national side.
And Warne said that he had never said no in his life to anything when it comes to the game and is open to coach the side if such an opportunity arises. (Also read: Took the bullet for my Indian colleagues by asking Dhoni about retirement, says Aussie journalist)
"I would love to work with the Indian team. I think they are a very talented team, wonderful team to work for. There is a lot of pressure, a billion plus people supporting the Indian team, if you make a mistake you cop it. If the opportunity came about, I would think about it," Warne said.
"I have never said no in my life to anything. I have always been open for anything, whether that is coaching India, coaching an Indian Premier League (IPL) team, coaching England, maybe not. I definitely want to stay involved in cricket. I love commentary and I hope people enjoy listening to me. I am not sure I am ready to coach right now, maybe down the track but I never say no to an opportunity."
"If an opportunity presents itself or comes to my door I would always weigh it up and then give an honest answer about what I think. If you can't give 100 percent to whatever it maybe then you are better off saying no. But that if opportunity came and you say you would love to do it then everything else stops and you can take up that opportunity that may be," the 46-year-old added.
India suffered a shock seven-wicket loss to the West Indies in the World T20 semi-final clash at the Wankhede Stadium here on Thursday. Batting first, India posted a competitive total of 192/2 in 20 overs, thanks to Virat Kohli's 89.
In reply, a brave Windies side, riding on Lendl Simmons' unbeaten 83 and Johnson Charles' 52, chased down the total posting 196/3 in 19.4 overs.
Warne heaped praise on India's star batsman Kohli but said that lack of basics let the hosts down in the semis.
"Yesterday India didn't get their basics right, they bowled a few no-balls, etc. etc. I was disappointed because I had backed India to win the tournament before a ball was bowled. I thought India vs England final would be good," he said.
"When you got a star player like Kohli, I think you got a blank piece of paper and you say 'who is your first pick T20 player' and for me it is Kohli. I would select him at No.3, that is my first selection. Second would probably be Chris Gayle for the opening position."
Warne further added, "Talking about Kohli, I don't think India rely too much on him at all. He has done so well. He batted beautifully last night. 192 was a good score but the Indians didn't bowl well enough. And a couple of no-balls cost them, the dew cost them, (Ravichandran) Ashwin bowled only two overs. (Ravindra) Jadeja's tactics of bowling wide of off-stump and three points, he went for 48 runs in his four overs, I don't think he got it quite right either."source-intoday

ICC World Twenty20: Joe Root sounds out warning to West Indies ahead of title clash

Batsman Joe Root feels former champions England carry the confidence of overcoming different challenges during the World Twenty20 as they gear up to face the West Indies in Sunday's final at the Eden Gardens.
"We've found ways of winning games of cricket, which is really important," Root said on Friday ahead of a practice session at the Eden Gardens. "We found ourselves in a number of different situations that we have overcome. It means that whatever happens, we would have been in that situation before. We have experience to go back upon -- ways that we have been successful." (England, West Indies to wear black armbands in memory of Kolkata flyover tragedy victims)
England, looking for a second title to add to their victory in 2010, lost to the West Indies by six wickets in their opening Super 10 game in Mumbai before turning things around with a 230-run chase against South Africa.
On a slower pitch in New Delhi, England won close games batting first against defending champion Sri Lanka and Afghanistan before an impressive seven-wicket win over New Zealand in the first semi-final.
Root said there had been no conscious change in the way they played after the initial setback against 2012 champion West Indies.
"There hasn't been any attitude swing or the way we approach practice," Root said. "But we stayed true to what we believed in as a side and how we want to play our cricket. Everyone's contributed in some way, shape or form, which is always nice going into a final."
Root is England's top scorer in the tournament with 195 runs while Jason Roy (183) and Jos Buttler (155) have also been among the runs.
England's bowling unit has also been effective with pace bowlers Chris Jordan and Ben Stokes taking charge in the end overs with finesse. (Balanced England 'buzzing' for big Eden final)
"The way we've bowled at the death has been outstanding. It's about making sure everyone is doing what he does in practice. Every game has been rocking for us (in the tournament) so hopefully it will be the same" in the final, Root said.
Asked if it was better to face the West Indies rather than pre-tournament favorite India on home soil, Root said the opposition didn't matter.
"If you are going to win the World Cup, you have to be the best throughout the tournament," he added.
Root said the big-hitters from the West Indies could be stopped if runs are dried up since they usually look for boundaries.
Chris Gayle had smashed a 48-ball 100 not out with 11 sixes and five fours to help chase 183 against England while Lendl Simmons got 82 not out in 51 against India in the semifinals with seven fours and five sixes.
"If you get a string of dot balls, you can find ways to keep building them and put them more and more under pressure," Root said.source-intoday

ICC Women's World Twenty20: Australia gunning for fourth title, West Indies in the way

Three-time winners Australia will be eyeing their fourth title when they take on  an in-form West Indies in the final of the ICC Women's World Twenty20 at the Eden Gardens tomorrow.
The Australian team, popularly known as the Southern Stars, have been unstoppable since their inaugural win in 2010. On their road to the final, Australia escaped a scare from arch-rivals England and managed a five-run victory in the semi-finals. (Also read: Joe Root sounds out warning to West Indies ahead of World T20 title clash)
Their captain Meg Lanning has been their leading run-scorer in the competition with 149 runs. She played a crucial role in the semis with a 50-ball 55 to take Australia to a competitive total of 132/6. (Full World T20 coverage)
What was impressive for Australia was the fact that other players chipped in too. They were provided a strong start from the openers as Alyssa Healy and Elyse Villani knit a brisk 41-run partnership.
"We've been pleased with our squad of 15 and our overall performance. I disagree that we relied heavily on one player. We've chased low totals. We've really benefited from the way Elyse Villani has kicked into gears and taken the game away in the opening overs," Australian vice-captain Alex Blackwell had told the media here.
"You can't ignore the impact of someone like Alyssa Healy and the way she took on Katherine... Small contributions can really be of high impact. Obviously Meg Lanning has been a real rock for us throughout. We've got plenty of players around. Ellyse Perry has been instrumental in our batting order in the recent years."
The wicket at the Eden Gardens is likely to spin, and therefore leg spinner Kristen Beams will look to be at the top of her game here along with left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen. The duo can easily have the West Indies under pressure if the wicket does offer purchase.
Megan Schutt and Rene Farrell with their slower deliveries may also be a handful in such conditions.
West Indies on the other hand, have nothing to lose. This is their first time in the final and they are going into it a confident side.
"We are very excited. It is our first final. So we need to stay focused and be calm. We will have to go out there and fight it out," West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor said at the pre match media conference.
Taylor with 187 runs from five matches has been the consistent performer for the Windies and her side will again look upto her to deliver in the finals.
Deandra Dottin, Healey Matthews and Shaquana Quintyne have also come good in the ongoing tournament and skipper Taylor will hope the team plays to their potential and delivers against the inform Australians.source-intoday

India vs West Indies World T20 Semis: Bad Toss to Lose, Spinners Ineffective, Laments Mahendra Singh Dhoni

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a disappointed man. World No. 1 and tournament favourites India were knocked out by West Indies in a thrilling World T20 semifinal match in Mumbai on Thursday night. West Indies play England in the final in Kolkata on April 3. (Heartbreak for India as West Indies win thriller)Dhoni said: "It was a bad toss to lose (because of the dew). When we started bowling, the spinners did not have much on offer." (India vs West Indies, World T20: Two No-Balls That Cost Mahendra Singh Dhoni's Men A Final Berth)
India's main spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja failed to deliver as Lendl Simmons smashed an unbeaten 82 off 51 balls to take the Caribbeans into the final. West Indies, chasing India's 192 for 2, won with two balls to spare.
Simmons rode his luck in his first match of the tournament. He was out twice, but alas both deliveries (by Ashwin and Hardik Pandya) were no-balls.
"We have a history of problems when the spinners bowl with a wet ball ... the only thing I am really disappointed are with the two no-balls," said Dhoni in a post-match chat.
"There was not much on offer, we wanted our fast bowlers to make a game out of it at the time, the conditions were very tough," Dhoni said.

ICC World Twenty20: Factors that could hurt Team India’s dream of clinching second title

Follow
The International Cricket Council’s flagship event World Twenty20 is all set to start, and considering the fact that the marquee event is taking place in India, Mahendra Singh Dhoni & Co certainly have a slight edge over the others. However, that’s not the only reason India are the favourites going into the tournament, where 10 teams will be fighting for the coveted trophy.
India have been in exceptional form in the shortest format since the start of the year. They have played eight matches thus far, losing just once and winning the rest by considerable margins after blanking Australia 3-0 Down Under and beating Sri Lanka 2-1 at home. Men in Blue proved their mettle in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2016 as well, where they defeated hosts Bangladesh to clinch their sixth title, in a tournament which was played for the first time in T20 format.
Many cricket pundits and most importantly the bookies too have rated India as the top contender to liftthe trophy for the second time under skipper Dhoni, eight years after he led them to their maiden World T20 title.
Most of the boxes got ticked for India ahead of the major event.
Even though everything is falling in place for Dhoni, the ‘Colonel’ and his troops still have to keep few things in mind to accomplish the mission.
Here are some factors which could hurt Team India and its World T20 campaign.
Vulnerability against pacers, moving ball: Even though India have been in exceptional form in the shortest format of late, we have witnessed how their batting collapsed against Sri Lanka on a green top in Pune. Their power-packed batting line up fell like ninepins and India got bundled out for a paltry 101. After few matches, once again Indian top-order was all at sea against Pakistan in Asia Cup, when Mohammad Amir was calling the shots. At one stage, India were reduced to 8 for 3, while chasing a small total of 83. It shows the vulnerability of Indian batsmen against quality fast bowlers and seamer-friendly wickets.
Highly unpredictable format: T20 cricket is also known as slam bang cricket. And it’s so unpredictable, that even minnows could upset the title contenders in a four-hour duel. Situations change swiftly in this format and one bad over can turn the entire complexion of the game, or for that matter, decide the winner. Reputation, past laurels or recent form don’t really matter much in this format. A team has to win seven matches at a stretch to win the tourney. It means, one loss at a crucial juncture could shatter the dreams. Even after having the favourites tag, India have to show impeccable consistency to lift the trophy as there is no room for complacency as one poor outing can prove to be costly.
Other title contenders: India are certainly the hot favourites to win the title, but other teams like Australia, South Africa and New Zealand too, are the likely contenders to raise the honour. Keeping the format in mind, one can’t even underestimate the West Indies, who boast of certain players that are masters of this format. And if they play to their true potential, Pakistan could also emerge as a threat, as the tournament is taking place in sub-continent.
Injury concerns: Team India’s playing XI is almost decided and Dhoni has made it pretty clear by playing the same set of people, ahead of World T20. But injuries could put India in spot of bother and might mar their chances of lifting the coveted trophy. Indian skipper suffered muscle spasm in the Asia Cup, which is certainly not a good sign for the team. Premier bowler Mohammed Shami is also making a comeback after a prolonged injury. A niggle forced opener Shikhar Dhwan to sit out in a high-profile clash against Pakistan in Asia Cup. Ageing Ashish Nehra is one of the most fragile and injury-prone bowlers in the world. Considering all this, team management and staff have to make sure all players remain in good shape throughout India’s World T20 campaign.   source:.india.com

World T20: Confident India to begin title bid against New Zealand

The superb build-up run has made India the clear favourites for an unprecedented second World Twenty20 title but the in-form hosts will have to guard against complacency when they take on a spirited New Zealand in their campaign-opener in Nagpur on Tuesday.
No host country has won the T20 world title in the last five editions and none has repeated a title triumph, but India's settled combination, led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and familiarity with the conditions make them the odds-on favourites to script history.
The 2007 Champions, India go into the Super 10 Group 2 clash against New Zealand with their tails up as the number one ranked team in the world.
India have been on a roll in the shortest form of the game, winning their last seven outings which included a 3-0 whitewash of World 50-over champions Australia in the latter's backyard.
Indian cricketers Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh and Ravindra Jadeja at Nagpur airport
IMAGE: Indian cricketers Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh and Ravindra Jadeja at Nagpur airport. Photograph: PTI.
They then went on to win the Asia Cup on a canter after beating Sri Lanka at home 2-1.
The five consecutive wins in Dhaka, including in the summit clash against Bangladesh that led to their continental supremacy in the T20 game, has given the team a huge morale boost.
However, Dhoni's men will be wary of the fact that they have never beaten New Zealand in T20s in four outings in the past including once during their stunning title run in the inaugural edition in 2007 in South Africa.
But in home conditions, India would be a big threat to the rest of the competitors, including New Zealand. The minor hiccup in India's build-up to this competition was their loss to South Africa by four runs in a practice match and this was perhaps a wake-up call for the team to avoid being complacent.
India do have the wherewithal and the personnel to script history and a win in Tuesday's opening game at the VCA Stadium in Jamtha would give them the ideal momentum to take on the challenges ahead head-on.
India's Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh and Ajinkya Rahane during a practice session
IMAGE: India's Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh and Ajinkya Rahane during a practice session. Photograph: Solaris Images.
Virat Kohli has been in terrific form, in the last two months. On top of his game, the Test skipper has made four half-centuries in seven innings, and two other scores in the 40s, besides leading four successful run-chases.
With an average of over 50 after 38 matches, he remains one of the players who will be feared by the opposition along with the equally talented Rohit Sharma who is set to play in his sixth WT20 championship.
Shikhar Dhawan's form has been patchy at best but the knock of 73 he made in the warm-up game against South Africa should have given him as well as the team a considerably boost going into the tournament.
With the likes of Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh and Dhoni himself to follow apart from Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja, India can bat deep down the order.
Indian players Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh and Ravindra Jadeja at training session
IMAGE: Indian players Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh and Ravindra Jadeja at training session. Photograph: PTI.
The unearthing of Jasprit Bumrah to bowl effectively at the early stages as well as in the death has given the team the much-needed go-to-man when things don't go as per plans.
With the vastly experienced Ashish Nehra, who has played in just one WT20 event earlier, and the timely return to fitness of Mohammed Shami, India have the pacers to do the job effectively. To add variety to medium-pace, there's Pandya.
It's in the spin department that they have an embarrassment of riches, barring a leg spinner.
The duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja should be the front-runners to take up two spots and the team has the choice of adding either Harbhajan Singh or Pawan Negi to the combination.

New Zealand too have the players to trouble India although they would be missing the fire-power and attacking captaincy of Brendon McCullum who has retired recently.
Led by Kane Williamson, a classically elegant batsman who ups his gears when opening in T20Is, the Kiwis are well-served with a set of explosive batsmen in Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Grant Elliott, Ross Taylor and Corey Anderson.
They have a very good pace battery, including left-right combinations, and a varied spin attack to fall upon in the middle overs, for containment as well as taking wickets.
The Kiwis had also won four out of their last five T20 Internationals -- against Pakistan and Sri Lanka -- but showed little hints of vulnerability to spin by England who checked in their stunning progress in the warm-up game in Mumbai. source:rediff

Asia Cup MVP: India triumph but Bangladesh come of age

Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah finished as the MVP in the recently-concluded Asia Cup T20 tournament ahead of compatriot Sabbir Rahman, who was named man of the series.

Although India won the recently-concluded Asia Cup T20 easily, the tournament will be best remembered as the moment when Bangladesh came of age in limited-overs' cricket.
It will be interesting to see how they fare in the ICC World Twenty20, which begins on Tuesday, March 15.

The Asia Cup featured a large number of low-scoring matches; a score of 120 in 20 overs was par, instead of 160 that we are more used to.

In a close fight for the top place in the Most Valuable Player (MVP) ranking, Mahmudullah edged out his compatriot Sabbir Rahman (who was picked as the Man of the Series).

Mahmudullah made it to the top chiefly because of his incredibly high strike rate (165.8) and because he also picked up four wickets at a fair economy rate.

The index to compute the MVP rewards batsmen who score a lot of runs quickly, bowlers who take wickets at low economy rates and fielders who field the best (take a lot of catches, and participate in run-outs).

This analysis does not include the scores in the qualifying games -- in which the UAE duo of Amjad Javed and Shaiman Anwar performed amazingly well.
The table below lists the top 50 players in the MVP list:

Suggested Dhoni to go up the order in Asia Cup final: Harbhajan

It was a suggestion from senior off-spinner Harbhajan Singh that prompted skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni to go up the order and finish the match in style during the recently concluded Asia Cup final against Bangladesh.
India needed 19 off 12 balls when Dhoni blasted Al-Amin Hossain for two sixes and a four to finish the match with seven balls to spare.
"I just gave him (Dhoni) a suggestion," Harbhajan said. Dhoni in fact took his suggestion promoting himself before hard-hitters Suresh Raina and Hardik Pandya showing his match finishing skills.

On personal front, he has put special emphasis on his fitness so that he can compete with the youngsters in the Indian cricket team.
'To compete with a 25-year-old, I've to be on the same level'

"It's lot up to you how do you manage. I've worked hard on my fitness which gets me going. If I compete with a 25-year-old, I've to be on the same level. I've the skill, will also should be there," Harbhajan said in an open session ahead of India's World Twenty20.
Not many of his contemporaries are playing the game actively but the Turbanator's passion for the game is such that he has not thought about any alternative.
"Friends (former teammates) are into other things like commentary but it's an individual choice. Playing gives me that pleasure. Till the time I can play, I must play - be it 40 or 50. I just love playing. I don't know other than that. Biggest gain is satisfaction. I've played with full passion. I've been very satisfied."
"It's important to share your knowledge or else you have not done anything. Not just on the field but off the field as well." Like in 2011 World Cup win, the home advantage will help India win big in their World Twenty20 campaign, he said.
"2011 also held here the biggest advantage is we know our conditions, all our grounds and what's the score. The pressure also lifts your game, need to use all this tool in your advantage and play well."

World T20: When performance belied reputations

World T20: When performance belied reputations

March 30, 2016 11:24 IST
The World T20 has had its share of surprises.
New Zealand's unbeaten run -- on wickets the All Blacks weren't expected to thrive on -- is commendable, but South Africa's early exit is a surprise.
As we head to the head to the business end of the tournament, that involves three former champions, Bikash Mohapatra glances at the players who flattered to deceive, faltering under the weight of expectations, hurting their respective teams.
A B de Villiers (South Africa)

He is a stalwart in One-Day cricket.
He is a formidable option in Test matches.
But when it comes to the game's shortest format, de Villiers is a disappointment so far.
His performances failed to inspire South Africa and it won't be wrong to say he is found wanting when his team needs him the most.
An aggregate of 110 runs in four games pales even further if one takes out the 64 against minnows Afghanistan.
Faf du Plessis (South Africa)

When you lead a side, it is your responsibility to lead by example.
Faf got it all wrong.
At a time when his team clearly needed more from him, the 31 year old disappointed.
While his numbers as a batsman aren't worthy enough to be mentioned, as a captain he failed to inspire his side.
Dinesh Chandimal (Sri Lanka)

It will take a long time before Chandimal takes up the places vacated by Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene.
If his current performances are anything to go by, he isn't good enough to be mentioned in the same breath as Kumar and Mahela.
While 56 runs in four matches is not what you expect from a frontline batsman, Chandimal also disappointed as a captain, failing to inspire his side against South Africa.
David Warner (Australia)

Australia failing to make the knock-out stages of an ICC event is a difficult pill to swallow.
The champions of the 50 over format flattered to deceive, failing to mount a challenge in the only competition they are yet to win.
And David Warner's contribution to the failure was sizeable.
Batting one down, the 29 year old only managed 38 runs in four innings.
Dale Steyn (South Africa)

He probably still is the world's fastest bowler.
But Steyn is in the final stretch of his amazing career.
His impact, across formats, has dwindled considerably over the last couple of seasons.
In both his matches in the WT20, the 32 year old was smashed all over the park.
An economy rate of 11.33 probably explains it.
David Miller (South Africa)

In the coming Indian Premier League Miller will shine for sure.
But when it comes to doing his bit for South Africa in the WT20 competition, he didn't fulfill his potential.
The 26 year old scored just 48 runs.
Shahid Afridi (Pakistan)

He is not in this list for his performance.
Afridi did decently well with both bat and ball.
Alas! He failed as captain.
Pakistan's failure has a lot to do with a lack of effort, and motivation.
And the buck stops with the captain.  source: rediff
