When Rohit lit up Eden - yet again!

An earthquake measuring 6.9 in magnitude hit Myanmar on Wednesday evening that triggered a few tremors in parts of Kolkata. The tremors were felt in the Eden Gardens as well by a section of the media before the start of the game. On a sporting note, tremors of a different kind were to be experienced later by the Kolkata Knight Riders on the cricket field, courtesy some fine hitting from the Mumbai Indians batsmen who creamed a run-chase of 188 with finesse.

At the helm of it was, no prizes for guessing - Rohit Sharma, who sure has fond memories of the Eden Gardens. Time and again he has said that there is just something very positive about this ground that eggs him to put up his best bat forward. Wednesday night against KKR was no different. There were shots that were pure joy to watch.

A flick for six, some glorious drives through the covers and that straight bat with the elbow high up in line with the eye - it was classic Rohit Sharma on display. The nineteenth over that Andre Russell bowled was a treat to watch in particular as Rohit completely dismantled the bowler thrashing four boundaries in that over. And, just like that it was the final nail in the coffin - it was Game, Set and Match Mumbai Indians. Captain leading from the front, two vital points, some stellar performances and the smiles were back in the Mumbai Indians dugout. Here’s man of the moment Rohit Sharma taking IPLT20.com through the run-chase and talking about his love for his second home - the Eden Gardens.

A win after the loss in the first game; this has to be a satisfying victory isn’t it?

It is a satisfying victory. The win was important and we have been talking about it a lot and today was a perfect day. Getting those two points was very crucial. We have worked really hard for this. We wanted to do well in Mumbai as well but things didn’t go accordingly. I always believe that this team has got a lot of potential and we came and proved it here today. We will happily take these two points with us to Mumbai.

The opening pair put up 50 runs in five overs, just the kind of start that the team needed?

When you are chasing big scores like that, you have to understand and plan your innings with your partner. Myself and Parthiv Patel talked about it at the start of the innings and we got off to a good start in the power play. As soon as we lost Parthiv, Hardik Pandya tried to rotate the strike but he couldn’t unfortunately. But Mitchell McClenaghan and Jos Buttler changed the course of the game.

A perfect performance from you as well, just the kind of innings you would want to play going ahead in the tournament?

Absolutely! It is important that someone from the top three bats as deep as possible and today it was me. Once I got to a decent start, I made sure that I was there as long as possible. There is nothing like starting off well and then finishing it off for your team. It is more pleasing when you do that. What I did pretty well was that I planned my innings and my shot selection was pretty good. I have played a lot of cricket here and I understand the wicket really well. I know what my scoring shots are here and where I can get runs. I planned it all well and it worked for me.

And obviously, your Eden Gardens romance continues. You sure know how to play here in particular, don’t you?

I understand how to score runs here. The outfield here is fast and you have to just time the ball really well; that is all you have to do when you are playing at the Eden Gardens. You don’t need to over hit it and sometimes when you do that you tend to lose shape and there are chances of you getting out. I select my shots and the bowlers I have to target. It works well for me here but I know that it won’t happen always. As long as it keeps happening it is good and I am going to take it no matter what.

Tell us about the thought process behind Mitchell McClenaghan’s promotion at number four.

It was Ricky Ponting’s idea. He is the one sitting in the dugout and having those ideas going around. He sent us a message inside asking if sending Mitch was a right move. I said, why not - they have two chinaman bowlers bowling who were at most times bowling googlies. We wanted to just upset their rhythm and we did it perfectly.

Also Jos Buttler coming into his own should augur well going ahead in the tournament.

Jos is going to be a very important member of our team going ahead. He is going to be a key factor for us. I thought he batted brilliantly. He got us that momentum we were looking for. Scoring 41 in 22 balls was some effort. We know that he is that kind of a player and he has done it for England many times. Today was a perfect day - he came and smashed it all round the park. I look forward to performances like those from him in the future as well.

Going forward, what are the areas that you would be looking to work on?

Going ahead I would expect the same kind of performance although there is room for improvement in the bowling department. We have to understand that taking wickets is very important in this format. We didn’t do that and that is the reason why we had to chase such a steep target. The Kolkata Knight Riders batted really well and looked like getting 200 at one point. Our bowlers bowled well at the death and got back us into the game.

A special feeling to put up a match-winning performance in front of Sachin Tendulkar, who was present in the Mumbai Indians dugout?

Sachin Tendulkar is vital as far as Mumbai Indians is concerned. His presence gives us the kind of motivation we need. He is someone who is always there to help, share his thoughts and advice people if needed. He congratulated me after the game and I am sure he was happy to see us win the game more than anything else.

Shahid Afridi Steps Down as Pakistan T20 Captain, Will Continue Playing

Karachi: Shahid Afridi, facing criticism for Pakistan's dismal show in the ICC World T20, on Sunday stepped down as captain of the team but will continue to play in the shortest format of the game. (Shahid Afridi Indicates he Would Retire After World T20)
The Afridi-led Pakistan failed make it to the semifinals of the World Twenty20 in India, where his comments also drew the ire of former players. (Shahid Afridi Does a U-Turn on Retirement Rumours)
The 36-year-old all-rounder and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had hinted that World T20 could well be be his last as skipper. (Shahid Afridi Was 'Absolutely Clueless' During World T20, Alleges Pakistan Team Manager Intikhab Alam)
"Today, I wish to inform my fans in Pakistan and all over the world that I am relinquishing the captaincy of the T20 Pakistani team of my own volition," Afridi said in a statement, released on his twitter account.
"On this day, I thank Allah (SWT) for His Kindness and Mercy which enabled me to discharge my leadership duties, to the best of my abilities for the sake of honour and prestige of my motherland. For me it was a great honour to lead my country in all three formats of the game," Afridi wrote in his statement.
'Will be available for selection'
Afridi, however, asserted that he will be available for selection as a player in the team even though PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan has made it clear that the all-rounder is no longer a surety in the side.
"My profound thanks to the PCB and its Chairman Shaharyar Khan who gave me the honour to lead the national team. I would also like to inform that InshaAllah I intend to continue to play the game for my country and league cricket etc. and request my fans for kindly keep praying and supporting for my best future performances for Pakistan (as a player); and in all other arenas of the game, world over."
The mercurial cricketer played 27 Tests for Pakistan before retiring from the format in 2010 with 1716 runs and 48 wickets.
In 398 ODIs, he has 8064 runs and 395 wickets, while 98 T20 International appearances have fetched him 1405 runs and 97 wickets.
Mired in controversy
Afridi found himself mired in controversies during Pakistan's World T20 campaign. First, he drew flak in Pakistan for stating that he and his players were loved more in India than back home.
Later, Pakistan lost three of their four group stage games, including a high-voltage clash against arch-foes India, to bow out of the tournament.
Amid the dismal on-field run, Afridi stirred up another controversy by specifically thanking Kashmiris for cheering his team in Mohali.
The remark was criticised by the BCCI with Board Secretary Anurag Thakur saying that the cricketer should avoid making political statements.
Post the World T20 debacle, Afridi had sought forgiveness from the people of his country for failing to live upto their expectations.
"I don't care what other people say about me but I am answerable to you (people of Pakistan). I, Shahid Afridi, seeks forgiveness from the people of Pakistan for not living upto the expectations that you had from this team and me," Afridi had said in a brief video message on his Twitter page.source-ndtv

Pakistan Women under Sana Mir have the best chance to win ICC Women’s T20 2016

Pakistan Women’s captain Sana Mir has always led from the front, and has turned the side into one of the most formidable units in the world. Her off-spinners and useful contributions with bat down the order have taken Pakistan a long way. They are one of the firm favourites to win the ICC World T20 2016 and after beating West Indies Women in their opening match, the team will surely be oozing with confidence for the remaining matches. Sana has led Pakistan Women in 62 Women’s T20Is out of a total of 64 matches since 2009. She has lead Pakistan to great heights during her tenure as captain. Full Scorecard: India Women vs India Women, ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2016, Match 7 at Delhi
Sana led Pakistan to a Gold Medal in 2010 Asian Games. She not only flourished as a player, but she has let the others too come up the ranks. She is the eighth-ranked bowler in Women’s ODI ranking, and has consistently been in the top 20 of Women’s T20I rankings for the past nine years.
Under Sana’s leadership, over eight players have broken through to the top 20 of ICC rankings. This shows that Sana is someone who can carry the team along with her. Pakistan have already suffered a major setback after losing their star opening batter Javeria Khan after she was struck on the jaw in the opening match of the tournament, and how Sana inspires her team will define things for Pakistan Women through the tournament.
Pakistan Women have a strong squad, but will rely in Sana, who idolises the likes of Imran Khan and Waqar Younis. She recently revealed that MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli are her favourite contemporary: cricketers “There are couple of names. If I just talk about my players, I think Virat Kohli is the favourite cricketer. Personally, Dhoni is my favourite player because he had led India. He has handled himself well on and off the field. He has transformed a team of juniors into an effective unit.”
Just like under Dhoni, many players have blossomed under her. Pakistan Women may not have tasted a lot of success but are certainly heading in the right path under Sana’s leadership.source-intoday

Shane Warne wants to coach Team India

Leg-spin legend Shane Warne on Friday expressed his desire to coach the Indian cricket team if he is approached for the role in the near future.
Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri is currently the team director. He is expected to leave his post after the conclusion of the World Twenty20 tournament.
The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to appoint a full term coach for the national side.
And Warne said that he had never said no in his life to anything when it comes to the game and is open to coach the side if such an opportunity arises. (Also read: Took the bullet for my Indian colleagues by asking Dhoni about retirement, says Aussie journalist)
"I would love to work with the Indian team. I think they are a very talented team, wonderful team to work for. There is a lot of pressure, a billion plus people supporting the Indian team, if you make a mistake you cop it. If the opportunity came about, I would think about it," Warne said.
"I have never said no in my life to anything. I have always been open for anything, whether that is coaching India, coaching an Indian Premier League (IPL) team, coaching England, maybe not. I definitely want to stay involved in cricket. I love commentary and I hope people enjoy listening to me. I am not sure I am ready to coach right now, maybe down the track but I never say no to an opportunity."
"If an opportunity presents itself or comes to my door I would always weigh it up and then give an honest answer about what I think. If you can't give 100 percent to whatever it maybe then you are better off saying no. But that if opportunity came and you say you would love to do it then everything else stops and you can take up that opportunity that may be," the 46-year-old added.
India suffered a shock seven-wicket loss to the West Indies in the World T20 semi-final clash at the Wankhede Stadium here on Thursday. Batting first, India posted a competitive total of 192/2 in 20 overs, thanks to Virat Kohli's 89.
In reply, a brave Windies side, riding on Lendl Simmons' unbeaten 83 and Johnson Charles' 52, chased down the total posting 196/3 in 19.4 overs.
Warne heaped praise on India's star batsman Kohli but said that lack of basics let the hosts down in the semis.
"Yesterday India didn't get their basics right, they bowled a few no-balls, etc. etc. I was disappointed because I had backed India to win the tournament before a ball was bowled. I thought India vs England final would be good," he said.
"When you got a star player like Kohli, I think you got a blank piece of paper and you say 'who is your first pick T20 player' and for me it is Kohli. I would select him at No.3, that is my first selection. Second would probably be Chris Gayle for the opening position."
Warne further added, "Talking about Kohli, I don't think India rely too much on him at all. He has done so well. He batted beautifully last night. 192 was a good score but the Indians didn't bowl well enough. And a couple of no-balls cost them, the dew cost them, (Ravichandran) Ashwin bowled only two overs. (Ravindra) Jadeja's tactics of bowling wide of off-stump and three points, he went for 48 runs in his four overs, I don't think he got it quite right either."source-intoday

Alex Ferguson urges Manchester United fans to keep calm and rally behind Van Gaal

Alex Ferguson has urged Manchester United supporters to get behind under-fire manager Louis van Gaal despite the side struggling to avoid a third hugely disappointing campaign since the all-conquering Scot retired.
United are sixth in the Premier League and face strong competition from West Ham United and bitter rivals Manchester City to clinch fourth place, the final Champions League spot, with eight games remaining.
The Red Devils are 16 points behind leaders Leicester City and the FA Cup appears to be their only hope of silverware this season despite heavy off-season investment, but they face a daunting quarter-final replay at West Ham on April 13.
Ferguson pointed out the host of injuries Van Gaal has had to deal with throughout the season, while also trying to integrate their summer additions into the squad.
"It is dead easy to be critical. You have to be realistic about some things. The number of injuries he has had... if you have players missing of that calibre it has to have an impact on the team," the club's most successful manager told British media.
"The other aspect which is always easy to forget, there are five new players in their first season at United and two are young players in (Anthony) Martial and Memphis (Depay), and their promise is good.
"You have to have some patience being a Manchester United fan and they have shown that over the years; in Matt Busby's time, in my time."
Van Gaal has brought through a number of academy players this term, such as striker Marcus Rashford, who has netted five times in eight appearances, and Ferguson has tipped the 18-year-old for greater things.
"He's given nine young players their debut -- I think the future is good. Rashford is an example of what I think is Manchester United... Rashford is a sensation and one of the best in years," Ferguson said.

PCB chairman Shaharyar Khan refuses to step down

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan has ruled out the possibility of his resignation in the wake of team's dismal Asia Cup and ICC World Twenty20 campaigns.
Shahid Afridi and his men were knocked out of the Asia Cup following a loss against Bangladesh and subsequently they also failed to reach the World T20 semi-final after losing three of their four group matches.
The PCB formed a fact finding committee to ascertain the reasons for the team's poor show in the two major events. The report, which was supposed to be confidential, was leaked in the media creating a crisis in the cricket board.
Soon after, it was widely reported in the Pakistan media that the PCB chairman, miffed with the leaked reports, has contemplated resignation.
However, the 82-year-old veteran insisted there was no truth in the media speculations.
"There is no truth in the rumours that I am considering stepping down," he told the media yesterday.
Khan, who is serving his second term as PCB chairman, has refused to comment on the committee's report for now.source-intoday

Time of my retirement is getting closer and closer, says Iker Casillas

Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas said he was keen to carry on racking up the international accolades after equalling the record for most caps by a European player but acknowledged he was closing in on retirement.
The 34-year-old Porto keeper showed his class with a couple of fine saves in his 166th Spain appearance, a goalless draw away to Romania on Sunday.
"The time of my retirement is getting closer and closer," Casillas told reporters.
"It's clear that time passes everyone and I am no exception of that.
"But I have hope and I would like to be with this team full of youngsters. I don't know if it's my last year with Spain, I only think about enjoying each day."
Casillas went level with Latvia's Vitalijs Astafjevs in the continent's record books after his 166th appearance in his 16th international season.
The former Real Madrid keeper, who has not conceded a goal in 710 minutes for Spain, made his senior international debut on June 3, 2000 against Sweden when he was 19 years and 14 days old.
He has gone on to win Euro 2008 and 2012, the 2010 World Cup as well as five Spanish league titles with Real and three Champions Leagues.
He left Real last year to join Porto but has been first choice for Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque during the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign, playing in seven of 10 matches despite Manchester United's David De Gea pushing for a starting spot.
"I am happy to reach 166 games and be the player with the most games for the national team," Casillas said.
"In these years I have lived good times and bad times, but I will stick with the good ones."Source:today news

Right to the end, Shahid Afridi was the ultimate tease

Afridi struck a couple of sixes, making 14 in what may have been his final game for Pakistan. Afridi struck a couple of sixes, making 14 in what may have been his final game for Pakistan.

If this is how Shahid Afridi’s international career is going to end, then, in a sort of macabre way, it was quite fitting.
With Pakistan’s hopes of progressing to the knockout stages hanging by a thread, Afridi had the burden of powering his team past Australia’s massive total of 193-4 during their final Super 10 match. Pakistan needed around 10 an over and more than 100 runs to win when Afridi came to the crease, but the belligerent batsmen occasionally defies logic and arithmetic.
In the 14th over, Afridi sensed his move. Youngster Adam Zampa was tantalisingly throwing up his looping leg-spinners and, in other words, the Australian spinner represented a walking bowling machine to Afridi.
Accordingly, Afridi launched a powerful straight six off Zampa’s first ball of the 14th over and for a brief moment the contest looked revived. Was this one of those rare days when Afridi was in that video game mode where he conjures the seemingly implausible?
Unfortunately, but almost inevitably, there would be no fairytale for the Pakistan captain playing in possibly his final international match. Zampa, who somewhat evokes Shane Warne’s innate self-confidence and acuity, could read Afridi’s mind. Truth be told, we all could. Predictably, Afridi charged down the pitch but, smartly, Zampa darted it short and wide and had the Pakistan captain convincingly stumped.
Smashing a six and then throwing away his wicket was very much a snapshot of Afridi’s teasing career that somehow stretched two decades.Pakistan spiralled after his dismissal to lose by 21 runs in a disappointing end to their World T20 campaign.
One can never quite be assured with the temperamental shenanigans of Pakistani cricket, but the match is likely to be Afridi’s international swansong although he did not make an announcement post game.
“I’ll go back home and then make a decision (about retirement),” Afridi said post game. “I’ll do what’s best for the country. I will announce this in my country. It’s not easy to handle pressure as Pakistan captain.”
It is hard to comprehend Afridi’s career, which started in 1996 when he was 16 years old (although his age is often a source of doubt and derision). It was electrifying but exasperating. Brilliant but bewildering. Undoubtedly, he is probably one of the most frustrating cricketers ever.
Afridi was seemingly gifted with blessed attributes for a cricketer. He imposed at the crease with his powerful physique, highlighted by such broad shoulders. Few have ever hit a ball harder. I remember being at the WACA ground in Perth during an ODI in 2005 when he smashed Andrew Symonds for one of the biggest sixes ever seen at the large ground. Of course, he holed out moments later.
One of the reasons he endured for so long was because of his uncanny ability to bowl accurate leg-spinners, which were so effective in the shorter formats and helped prolong his career. He was extremely hard to get hold of, as evidenced by a highly impressive T20I career economy rate of 6.6. Afridi seemed to comprehend the necessary subtleties with ball that he just couldn’t grasp with bat.
There has been many maddening players over the years, but no one was quite as manic as Afridi. Temperamental tricksters such as Glenn Maxwell often infuriate with their recklessness but Afridi had his own rarefied realm when it came to exasperating.
Sometimes you just wished he simply would take a deep breath and not try to hit every ball as far as humanly possible. It is little wonder he averages a mediocre 24 in ODIs through 398 matches and 18 over 98 T20Is. His strike rates are an incredible 117 and 150 respectively, but you feel that if Afridi had battered with a bit more sense, he could have been far more effective.
Still, in some ways, it’s trivial squabbling over legacies and whether players reached their potential. More importantly, Afridi was always compelling and entertaining. You always wanted to watch him bat, and even bowl, because anything could happen.
Afridi had the enviable ability to smash the most outrageous sixes you’re ever likely to see and, then, the unenviable knack of departing ingloriously to the most brainless batting imaginable.
International cricket will seem a little less manic without the beguiling Afridi. We’ll still no doubt see him on the lucrative T20 carnival as an expensive gun for hire but it won’t quite feel the same. For better or worse, Afridi symbolised Pakistan, a team prone to haphazardness.  source   cricket.yahoo

New Zealand win by 75 runs. | New Zealand Vs Bangladesh Live Score, 28th T20 Match, Super 10 Group 2

New Zealand take on Bangladesh in Match 28 of the ICC World T20 2016 at the historic Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. New Zealand, who too are one of the powerhouse of the game in this very format, are yet to win this prestigious crown. Although they have been good enough in the tournament till date, they haven’t yet delivered, what it needs to take to be crowned the champions, and will be on the pursuit, as they take on the qualifier, who too would indeed be giving them a tough competition, in the typical sub-continental conditions.

New Zealand, have been in great form of late, especially in the shortest format of the game, thus winning their Twenty20 International (T20I) series 2-1 against Pakistan at home, and would aim to continue their stellar performance in this tournament and earn the title. However, the sub-continental tracks are set to provide a major challenge to the Kiwis, as they must prepare themselves good enough to be worthy of putting their hands on the title.

The ICC World T20 2016 is being hosted from March 11 to April 3 in India, as this would also be the sixth annual ICC World T20 event ever since it was inaugurated in 2007. The tournament is being hosted across seven different cities in the nation, with the final too slated to be hosted at this very venue in Kolkata. Just like the previous edition, this year too, the tournament is slated to have 16 teams participating, out of which eight teams play the qualifiers and a could make it to the main round of 10. Ten teams qualified automatically through their status as full members of the International Cricket Council, while another six qualified through the 2015 World Twenty20 Qualifier.

New Zealand have looked every bit the team to beat in their first assignment post Brendon McCullum. His imprint is pretty much evident on this team, which continues to play his brand of aggressive cricket and takes his legacy forward. Under Kane Williamson, they have acclimatised well to the conditions and are playing exceptional cricket at the moment.

On the other hand, Bangladesh’s campaign has been a tragic one. From the ban on Taskin Ahmed and Arafat Sunny due to suspect bowling action to the one run loss against India, nothing has gone in their favour in this tournament.

New Zealand are the team to beat in the tournament, having won all their three matches including the tournament against favourites India at Nagpur. Williamson and Co played according to the conditions they were  provided with by including as many as three-spinners against the hosts. New Zealand team has been on a roll since then having beaten Australia and Pakistan.

Still shaken from a heart-breaking defeat against India, Bangladesh will need to learn from their mistakes.  Skipper Mashrafe Mortaza did say that the match against New Zealand will be very important even though it is a dead rubber, they will give their all to win the match.

New Zealand will want their bowling line-up to keep on the good show they have put up in the competition with Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner turning out to be game changers for them. Both combined have picked up 13 wickets from just three matches so far.

Shahid Afridi Admits He's Not Fit to Lead Pakistan After Loss to Australia in World T20

Pakistan's captain Shahid Afridi walks from the field after being dismissed during the World T20 match.

© AFP

Mohali: Shahid Afridi said he was no longer up to captaining Pakistan after his team's exit Friday from the World Twenty20 but held back from making an announcement on his possible retirement. (Australia Knock Pakistan Out of World T20)
Going into the match against Australia, the 36-year-old had strongly hinted it would be his last appearance for his country after nearly two decades of international cricket.
But Afridi, who quit as Pakistan's Test captain back in 2010 and has also already called time on his ODI career, said he still felt fit enough to carry on playing at the highest level. (Shahid Afridi Does a U-Turn on Retirement Rumours)
"I will announce it in my country. Whatever is better for the country, I will go with that," Afridi said at the post-match ceremony in Mohali when asked if he was going to retire.
"I will see my form. There is pressure, media pressure. As a player, I am fit. As a captain, I am not fit," he added after the 21-run defeat against Australia.
Afridi is highest wicket-taker in the history of Twenty20 cricket with 97.

Some PCB members don't want me to help Pakistan cricket: Wasim Akram

Former Test captain and great, Wasim Akram, is ready to help get Pakistan cricket back on its feet but believes some members of the cricket board don't want to see him doing this.
There were reports that some members of the board of governors of the PCB didn't want the Chairman to consult him in cricket matters including in the fresh appointments to be made after the World T20.
Wasim said: "If some members don't want the Chairman to consult me or seek my advice on appointment of a new coach why is this, I think it is because they don't want to see anything improve in our cricket," Wasim said on Geo News channel.
"I met with the Chairman for a short while at the Kolkata airport and that is all. But now I hear about this resistance to me being involved in Pakistan cricket," he said.
Wasim said he was what he was because of Pakistan cricket and not because of the cricket board.
"I am always willing to help out Pakistan cricket and do my best to improve things. But if someone doesn't want this it means they don't want to see improvement in our cricket," he said.
PCB chairman Shahryar Khan had told the media recently that he had spoken to Wasim about appointing a foreign or local coach.
Wasim also felt that drastic improvement was required in Pakistan's cricket system, particularly in the domestic cricket.
"We need to upgrade and modernize our cricket system because at this time we are 10 years behind the other big nations," he said.
Wasim said it was useless finding someone to blame for the recent poor performances as the quality of cricket had fallen in Pakistan.
Shakil Sheikh, a senior member of the BOG, which heads the cricket committee and is also in the fact-finding committee formed by the board after the Asia Cup, is reported to have resisted involving Wasim and former captain Ramiz Raja in cricket affairs.
Shakil apparently told Shahryar at a meeting of the cricket committee on Wednesday that Wasim and Ramiz keep on criticizing the board and also interfere in team matters by trying to influence some players in the side.
He also raised questions about Wasim's past with reference to fixing scandals and questioned how could the PCB trust or seek advice from him.

Live cricket score: Pakistan 125/4 | Overs 15 | Target 194 | BATSMEN: Khalid Latif 41(34), Shoaib Malik 5(4) | Hazlewood is brought back into the attack. Looks like it’s the right decision. Pakistan now need 84 runs from 30 balls which is simply a herculean task. Latif hits Hazlewood for a boundary over extra cover. It was a fuller delivery outside off. He takes a single bringing Shoaib Malik on strike. Malik picks up a couple and then a single. Pakistan needs big shots; singles and doubles won’t suffice.
Live cricket score: Pakistan 110/4 | Overs 13.2 | Target 194 | BATSMEN: Khalid Latif 31(28) | Coulter-Nile bowls a full length ball. Latif’s eyes lit up and he hit the ball hard towards mid-wicket for a four. He hits another four; this time off a pull shot. Live cricket score: Pakistan 73/2 | Overs 9 | Target 194 | BATSMEN: Khalid Latif 17(15), Umar Akmal 23(14) | Latif pulls a slower ball by Faulkner towards backward square for a single. Australia still have an upper hand in the match. Akmal then takes a couple at the same area. He then hits the ball towards the covers to get off the strike. Latif hits Faulkner for maximum over long-on. It was a length ball directed towards the middle stump.
Live cricket score: Pakistan 62/2 | Overs 8 | Target 194 | BATSMEN: Khalid Latif 10(12), Umar Akmal 20(11) | Right-arm legbreak bowler Adam Zampa is brought into the attack. He is giving good flight in his balls, inviting the batsmen to take a bit of risk. Both Khalid and Akmal are now batting as per the merit of the ball they are facing. Just four runs off Zampa’s first over.
Live cricket score: Pakistan 58/2 | Overs 7 | Target 194 | BATSMEN: Khalid Latif 8(10), Umar Akmal 18(7) | Umar Akmal hits a length ball by Shane Watson over the ropes. Pakistan needs more of these. Live cricket score: Pakistan 41/2 | Overs 6 | Target 194 | BATSMEN: Khalid Latif 8(10), Umar Akmal 1(1) | Sharjeel pulls James Faulkner for a four over square leg but the bowler cleans him up soon after. Sharjeel again attempts his favourite pull shot but ends up dragging the ball onto his stumps. He was a little early in his shot. But that aside, it was not the kind of shot to be played off this delivery. OUT! Sharjeel Khan b James Faulkner 30(19)
Live cricket score: Pakistan 36/1 | Overs 5 | Target 194 | BATSMEN: Sharjeel Khan 26(16), Khalid Latif 8(8) | Australia have to get rid of Sharjeel or else they will always be in danger of him taking this match away from them. Another four, but this time it’s Khalid Latif. Hazlewood bowls a short ball outside the off stump. Khalid gets back in his crease and pulls the ball towards mid-on.
Live cricket score: Pakistan 30/1 | Overs 4 | Target 194 | BATSMEN: Sharjeel Khan 26(16), Khalid Latif 2(2) | Sharjeel hits his fifth shot to the fence. This time towards deep mid-wicket. Live cricket score: Pakistan 14/0 | Overs 2 | Target 194 | BATSMEN: Sharjeel Khan 13(9), Ahmed Shehzad 0(4) | Nathan Coulter-Nile bowls a poor ball. Sharjeel takes full benefit of it and hits it towards the third man for a boundary. Coulter-Nile gave just too much room to Sharjeel. He needs to cramp the batters for room.  Sharjeel then hits two fours on consecutive deliveries. He first hit towards the point and then down the ground.
Live cricket score: Pakistan 2/0 | Overs 1 | Target 194 | BATSMEN: Sharjeel Khan 1(3), Ahmed Shehzad 0(3) | Pakistan have an uphill task as they are chasing a hefty total. Sharjeel Khan and Ahmed Shehzad have opened for them. They will be up against Josh Hazlewood, who is handed the new ball.  He is keeping a tight line though he is drifting with his length a bit. But that is deliberate, making the batsmen not play per-meditated shots.
INNINGS BREAK
Live cricket score: Australia 193/4 | Overs 20 | BATSMEN: Steven Smith 61(43), Shane Watson 44(21) | Aamer is bowling the last over of the innings. He bowls two wides; Pakistan bowling has penetration but it utterly lacks discipline. He bowls two dots. Smith then picks up a single off a legbye. Watson then hits a four and six off consecutive deliveries. One run come off a legbye on the final ball of the innings. Australia post 193, which is simply terrific considering they were three-down in 7.2 overs with 57 runs on board.
Live cricket score: Australia 181/4 | Overs 19 | BATSMEN: Steven Smith 61(40), Shane Watson 34(18) | Riaz bowls a juicy full toss. Watson aims the extra cover region but he fails to middle the ball. He gets a four; a little better timing and it could definitely had been a six.  He rotates the strike and Smith hits the final ball of the penultimate over for a four at deep mid-wicket. Great comeback by Australia.
Live cricket score: Australia 167/4 | Overs 18 | BATSMEN: Steven Smith 56(38), Shane Watson 27(14) | Smith picks up a couple and gets to his half century. He takes a single over deep mid-wicket off his next ball. Watson then hits another maximum. Sami attempted a yorker but ends up pitching a length ball. Watson gets down and hits it hard over the cover region.  He takes a single later on. Sami bowls a short ball and Smith makes room for hitting the ball towards square. He fully understood that this shot will fetch him four runs as there was no fielder stationed there.
Live cricket score: Australia 152/4 | Overs 17 | BATSMEN: Steven Smith 48(34), Shane Watson 20(12) | Smith hits a four. Another spectacular exhibition of poor fielding. Aamer bowled a fuller ball outside off. Smith hits it hard behind square. Latif is not able to stop it. The ball rushes towards the boundary. He picks a single to bring the dangerous looking Watson on strike. Watson hits a six and four off consecutive deliveries.
Live cricket score: Australia 136/4 | Overs 16 | BATSMEN: Steven Smith 42(32), Shane Watson 9(9) | Watson helps a Riaz’s short ball pitched over off towards the third man for a single. Riaz bowls the same ball again. Smith fails to score off it. However, a legbye the next ball brings Watson on strike. Riaz pitches a short ball again but Watson probably knew it. He latches on it and pulls it for a boundary behind square.
Live cricket score: Australia 127/4 | Overs 15 | BATSMEN: Steven Smith 42(28), Shane Watson 3(6) | Afridi is playing with his variations and pace to keep the batsmen guessing. Smith is now just eight runs short off his fifty. Innings has reached its climax. Can Australia go past 170? We will soon find out.
Live cricket score: Australia 119/4 | Overs 13.4 | BATSMEN: Steven Smith 37(26) | Glenn Maxwell attemps a straight shot over the bowler Wasim’s head but does not gets his timing right. The ball goes towards long-on. Ahmed Shehzad stationed there makes no mistake. OUT! Glenn Maxwell c Ahmed Shehzad b Imad Wasim 30(18)

Live cricket score: Australia 112/3 | Overs 13 | BATSMEN: Steven Smith 34(24), Glenn Maxwell 30(17) | Sami is brought back into the attack. He starts off with a wide. Pakistan have to bowl with discipline, they cannot allow Australia get off the hook at this stage. Smith then cuts him for a boundary over third man region. It was a short ball outside off asking for punishment. He bowls a very similar delivery later. Maxwell takes full advantage of it and pulls it brilliantly over deep square leg for a boundary. He follows it up with a six.
Live cricket score: Australia 95/3 | Overs 12 | BATSMEN: Steven Smith 25(21), Glenn Maxwell 20(13) | Smith survives a LBW appeal. Maxwell keeps on running but Smith asks him to go back.  Akmal aims at the stumps but misses. Maxwell gets a life. Pakistan have to be more quick in their fielding, it might prove as the deciding factor at the end.
Live cricket score: Australia 90/3 | Overs 11 | BATSMEN: Steven Smith 22(17), Glenn Maxwell 18(11) | Maxwell unleashes his dangerous side. Afridi bears the brunt. 13 runs off his over. Maxwell hit two fours. First time he was a little fortunate but he played a very good sweep shot for his next boundary. Australia will continue to bat the way they always have.
Live cricket score: Australia 77/3 | Overs 10 | BATSMEN: Steven Smith 20(15), Glenn Maxwell 7(7) | Afridi bowls a good ninth over, just six runs from it. Imad Wasim then compliments him with some really good left-arm orthodox spin. Pakistan have succeeded in bringing the run rate down. Good start for Pakistan, just what the doctor ordered for them. Their pace and spin bowlers, both have been very good today.
Live cricket score: Australia 64/3 | Overs 8 | BATSMEN: Steven Smith 12(8), Glenn Maxwell 2(2) | Another wicket and guess what, this time too it was a bowled. Finch is late in his shot quite similar to Warner. The extremely destructive Glenn Maxwell replaces Warner. He takes a single and Smith hits a four the next ball. Australians are getting runs but they are losing wickets as well. OUT! Aaron Finch b Imad Wasim 15(16)
Live cricket score: Australia 57/2 | Overs 7 | BATSMEN: Steven Smith 7(6), Aaron Finch 15(14) | Australia need a partnership now. Shahid Afridi has come to bowl the first over after the powerplay. Just five runs off it, all through singles. The batters tried to hit big shots, Smith in particular. He even advanced down the track but Afridi made a slight adjustment with his length.
Live cricket score: Australia 52/2 | Overs 6 | BATSMEN: Steven Smith 5(4), Aaron Finch 12(10) | Sound of timber! Riaz bowls a quicker delivery and Warner has no answer to it. He is late in his shots and fails to make good contact with the ball. Riaz is bowling some terrific stuff. Pakistan needs more from him considering their batting has failed them time and again. Skipper Steven Smith has arrived at the crease. Smith picks up four runs at mid-on; some excellent running between the wickets helped by some lazy and poor fielding. Smith then gets a four off a leg bye on the final delivery of the over. OUT! David Warner b Wahab Riaz 9(6)
Live cricket score: Australia 42/1 | Overs 5 | BATSMEN: David Warner 9(5), Aaron Finch 11(9) | Finch hits Sami for a four. This time again at deep backward point. Australians are simply loving that area.  Warner joins the party and hits his second four on a trot. He gets room outside off and hits the ball hard towards the covers. The outfield does the rest; it is very quick.
Live cricket score: Australia 32/1 | Overs 4 | BATSMEN: David Warner 4(2), Aaron Finch 6(6) | Wahab Riaz is brought into the attack. Khawja hits him for a huge six. It was a short ball pitched around the off stump. Khawaja pulls it over deep square leg. Riaz comes back strongly and cleans up Khawaja. Khawaja finds the quick yorker by Riaz too much to handle. David Warner has come to the middle. He gets off the mark with a four over deep backward point.  OUT! Usman Khawaja b Wahab Riaz 21(16)
Live cricket score: Australia 21/0 | Overs 3 | BATSMEN: Usman Khawaja 15(13), Aaron Finch 5(5) | Aamer is playing a bit with his line, length and variations in good fashion. He is bowling off cutters, length and fuller balls. Both the batters are finding it difficult to hit big shots off him. However, they are rotating the strike pretty well. That is what Aussies are so good at.
Live cricket score: Australia 16/0 | Overs 2 | BATSMEN: Usman Khawaja 14(10), Aaron Finch 1(2) | Mohammad Sami is sharing the new ball with Aamer. Khawaja welcomes him with a boundary. It was a bad ball going down the leg side. Khawaja punishes it through a pull shot. He ends the over with another four.
Live cricket score: Australia 5/0 | Overs 1 | BATSMEN: Usman Khawaja 5(5), Aaron Finch 0(1) | Mohammad Aamer opens the proceedings for Australia. A tight first over from him. Only five runs from it. If it was not for a four hit by Khawaja off a good full delivery which swung well, it could had been even better.
TOSS UPDATE: Australia win toss, elect to bat first. Aaron Finch finally has been given a game, is brought in replacing Mitchell Marsh. Meanwhile, Pakistan have brought in Wahab Riaz in place of Mohammad Irfan.
Playing XI:
Australia: Usman Khawaja, Aaron Finch, David Warner, Steven Smith, Shane Watson, Glenn Maxwell, James Faulkner, Peter Nevill, Adam Zampa, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Josh Hazlewood
Pakistan: Ahmed Shehzad, Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, Umar Akmal, Shoaib Malik, Sarfraz Ahmed, Shahid Afridi, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Aamer, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Sami
Australia who have been playing with ther batting order lately will mostly retain the opening combination of Usman Khawaja and Shane Watson and continue with their decision of playing David Warner in the middle-order. IT is for the first time since Khawaja’s international debut five years back, he will be facing the nation of his birth, Pakistan. Meanwhile, there have been news Australia might finally give a game to their former Twenty20 International (T20I) skipper Aaronnch. Steven Smith who has been struggling with the bat in this World T20 will have to step up if Australia wants to challenge the knock out stages. They have been struggling at the stake of his bad form.
“At the end of the day it’s where Smithy wants me to bat. I’ve batted there before in the IPL and I know my role. I’ve got to do as well as I can at that position. For us it’s about having more power in the middle and having a left-hander there helps a great deal,” Warner commented on his middle-order role.   source   cricketcountry
